DC House
There is no mistake that it felt, to me at least, that he called a piss poor game. I also see people calling for his head already. I'm very much willing to see how the season plays out and what kind of adjustments/tweeks he makes to his style. Sometimes to be the best, you gotta get knocked on your ass. Not saying he's going to a be a top notch DC either. He could be a "one and done" and back to being a secondary coach somewhere next season.

RE: DC House
I'll be honest and say that I only watched part of the game (it started past midnight here) but everyone knew going into the season that the D had big question marks were at DE and LBs and these areas were exploited marvelously by FSU. How do you scheme with that - I honestly don't know. There's definitely time to improve and let's hope for 3-1 going into VT.

RE: DC House
I think House was trying to scheme to protect weaknesses as IP mentioned above. His primary motive was to keep everything in front of them and not get burned on deep plays. I also think he tried to take a page from the NE game plan that was employed in the AFC CCG against Ben R during his rookie season by dropping more into coverage and making the rookie beat you. Too bad the LBs were still raw plus FSU's QB is MUCH better than a true freshman should be...

RE: DC House
Last year our defense sucked out loud against YSU and I personally witnessed the beat down Cinci laid on us. After that we settled in and played good ball. We won't see another team as good as FSU again this season unless we make the championship game. I have no problem with the defensive game plan, they decided to make a RS Freshman QB playing his first game beat them. He was up to the task.

RE: DC House
WTF is House doing? Did he completely scrap the Huxtable defense and go in a new direction? Could it be that the players are not used to House's schemes and are therefore confused? Or is House a nimrod of a DC? Or is it primarily an issue with a lack of players with enough speed/strength to play on D?
I know Hokie Mark was yanking our chains about Duke's speed on offense, but maybe they do have more team speed on O than Pitt was used to seeing in the BE...

RE: DC House
I don't know what it is. There has to be blame on the players. Vinopal always seems to be a step or two out of position. The LB corpse outside of Thomas is OK at best and our DE's are weak. The most disappointing thing to me is how how Pitts is playing. Several times he was in position to make a play but didn't turn his head to locate the ball. Outside of Ezzel, Donald, Hendrix, and K. Williams there isn't much talent on this defense. As long as our DT's, Ezzel and Donald, make plays, this defense is dope. When they're not causing havoc, the defense gets exposed.
The first step is to find a replacement for Vinopal. I don't care if it's Webb, Cullen, or J. Pitts. This is a transition year anyways so why not replace a veteran that isn't performing well w/ a kid that is the future.

RE: DC House
The D certainly doesn't look good. Remember that most folks are hoping for 6-6 and a bowl game this year to continue the rebuild after the 43 coaches over the past 4 years. And just think that all of the playmakers outside of Thomas (Donald, Ezell, Hendrix, and K. Williams) are all seniors so it doens't bode well for the next year either.

RE: DC House
Speaking of next year... Could honestly see a secondary consisting of: CB's; Pitts & Howard/Coles, FS; Webb, SS; Christian next season. I say it'll be faster/more athletic than this edition. Doesn't mean it'll be better. The LB corp doesn't thrill me w/ Thomas, Galambos, and Grigsby w/ a front four of Durham, Render, Smith, Murphy/Price. This year I'd work towards getting Galambos, Grigsby, Christian, and Webb as much PT as possible. Vinopal is still a RS JR per Rivals and I just don't see him getting better as the season goes along. The kid is regressing big time.

With Vinopal I think athletic ability may be an issue. I agree - not sure we're better off next year. Better score a lot of points.

RE: DC House
I will be interested to see how we play this week. Both teams that torched us were playing QBs that we had little or no tape on. The team we had tape on, NM we played well against. If we play well this week, it may just be House does do well on the fly. That he could grow into.
