The Vols are a major rebuilding project, and probably more than Jones can handle. I don't see himhaving enough stature, and certainly doesn't have the resume, to get that program to where thier fans want it. Plus, look at the competition. As long as Saban is at Alabama, the SEC championship runs through Tuscaloosa.

Look for the next coach at UT to win with BJ recruits.

I had a chuckle at this score when I saw it. I guess they didn't Represent the T very well today.

RE: OT Lyle gets crushed by Oregon
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Butch is a program-maintainer not a program-builder. He did a good job at CMU and here because Kelly had built the program and he just kept it going. Tennessee on the other hand needs a program builder and that is simply not Butch Jones.

All that said, we got embarrassed by unranked Illinois while he got embarrassed by #2 Oregon. I'm as mad at Butch as all of you but let's grow up and stop throwing stones from our glass house.

I have no idea whether or not Lyle can build a program. He has not proved it to date, because so far he has inherited programs that were already booming.

I think Jones is absolutely a program builder. The talent and depth we see on the current Bearcats team is mainly due to the recruiting efforts of him and his staff. The issue with Jones is that his in-game coaching and adjustments are lacking. He was "OK" in this area, but is it enough to out think the Nick Sabans of the SEC? I don't know. It's clear he'll stock the coffers at Tennessee with talent but I'm not sure, when push comes to shove on the football field, that it will translate to wins.

RE: OT Lyle gets crushed by Oregon
I actually watched this game. Butch makes same old mistakes coaching wise. Oregon didnt score first 3 possessions! 3 and out, missed FG, and fumble. Tenn up 7-3 at own 40 had 4th and 1 and UT punted.

a few hours later Oregon led 52-7.

obv that one play didnt have THAT big of a difference....BUT...you go for a 4th down. on the road. MAYBE score TD? up 14-3?? who knows.

reminded me of Cincy @ UT Butch's first year

After Lyle was shopping around last year for a job as if he were the only man in town, I grew sour to him and wish him only the worst. Nice beat down by Oregon. They really blew his doors off, passing and running all over the place. Can't help but wonder what the faithful are thinking now at UT.

If he gets a few more years of recruiting classes that look like the present one I think he is going to be fine.

The question is can he hang on and continue to recruit like this during the next couple years of very rough on-field results.

IMO all these 4 and 5 star type Recruits are going to think twice about things if this and next season are too bad and the negativity at UT is too high.

Agree on both fronts. It is telling that in his time at UC he never won a signature game. The last time I think he beat someone that was ranked higher than his team was when he was at CMU and they beat Michigan State. That really was his only big win at CMU by the way.
