Fans can look ahead if they want. It's not completely ahead of ourselves. This team has dismantled MAC play for 3 years straight, been nearly unbeatable at home for awhile and has the league's best player. NIU just went to an Orange Bowl George and made it over a huge hurdle to return, they started 1-0 on the road.
Maddawgz, did you see Purdue they are pitiful, also 3 losses, unlikely
It's extremely difficult to go undefeated, extremely. So that isn't in their favor
NIU is better than any team they will play during the regular season, so they do have the talent to go 12-0
As long as the team takes it one at a time, which I think they will they will be fine. They seem to have an extreme focus after last year. Also, I would take this secondary against a lot of MAC offenses and feel very confident they can create trouble for the wideouts and qbs.
Personally, I AM going to look ahead and dream big..BECAUSE IT'S FUN!!!! Plus we just came off an orange bowl appearance and winning on the road against a big ten opponent! Lets smile an enjoy the ride baby

LOL. I just created a new topic saying almost these exact same points. It's absolutely time to dream. We could be on the brink of something unimaginable here.
Really looking at the next few weeks of the coaches poll...unless there are several upsets of teams ranked and lower or we just absolutely blow out everyone AND Iowa also wins, then I don't see us ranked until after Purdue...as long as we don't lay an egg.
If the Huskies put up the same numbers against Idaho as they did UMASS last year, there is a good chance they could take 25. Some other schools got votes just because of their dominating games over FCS schools, and Idaho is at least still FBS.
Forgive my arrogance, but I hope we run it up on everyone we can this year. We need to make statements every chance we get. I don't want a 30-24 win over Idaho. Gotta blow them out.

Even if Iowa beats their FCS team and ISU and we kill Idaho like UMASS, best case is #26 in the coaches poll for the home opener. I wouldn't be surprised if ASU and Cinci passed us in the next poll.

You are probably right. Here is a bad sign for the Huskies upward mobility. Even in beating an Iowa team at their place, our somewhere around 3rd toughest opponent, NIU ONLY picked up 2 additional new AP voters from week 1 to week 2. All of the pub about NIU's worthiness in the Orange Bowl is really going to hurt us this year in the polls. It really is unfair to this team because it is not the same team, and also what is unfair about it, is that Florida was not penalized for their BCS game like NIU was. I can just see the week 8 AP ballots for NIU's rankings:

FYI... I took a look back and since 2002, every team that was undefeated finished in at least the top 12 in the last few BCS polls. This includes teams that came out of nowhere like Houston, Hawaii, Ball State, etc. Although some of them lost their last game, they would've finished in the top 12 at least had they won, and usually top 10. I don't think there's any doubt if we continue to win each week we will just naturally move up. The Iowa win was huge to detract the doubters. It's just natural to continue to move up as teams lose. I think there's a lot of evidence that it will happen. Of course unless you think the world is out to get us like one person does...
