Why Doesn't This Happen at Huskie Stadium after a Win?

Top story is of course the Iowa Victory. Includes a beautiful picture of players and Huskie Fans celebrating by singing the NIU "fight song" together. Happened a few years ago on the road vs Purdue also.

Question: Why doesn't this happen at HS? After the game, our players shake hands with opponents and then head straight for the Yordon. Shouldn't this be a tradition and wouldn't this help with fans/students to stay to the end and celebrate with the players? Pretty common at many schools I believe.

Totally agree.

Last year Kansas game was a huge lost opportunity for the team to celebrate infront of the student since most stayed for the whole game.

I would agree it would be nice, but generally I think its just different when you play away and at bigger games. There is a sense of euphoria that a "regular" home win doesn't have.

I really wish we would stop doing this when we beat BCS teams. We were better than Iowa, treat it that way.

NIU was 0-8 against Iowa all time, this was a huge win to celebrate no matter how you look at it.

I disagree. It was the 1st time we beat Iowa and not the 1st time we we were the better team. It was a big win. It's nice for the team to share with the fans, especially when they travel for a game.

the tradition started back in the Novak days. after home games we always ran to the lockeroom and huddled up. coach joe addressed the team, and then president peters kicked off the fight song. just a team thing, i personally like it that way since its really becoming a tradition that the players keep passing down no matter who the coach is.

This has been a team tradition for the guys for a long time. Last year the team did do this in front of the student section for a few of the final games but unfortunately most of the students were already gone.

RE: Why Doesn't This Happen at Huskie Stadium after a Win?
I would like to see this at Huskie Stadium after every win. Our guys can shake hands with the visitors...then gather in front of the east side & do the fight song. It would create more of a connection and more of a bonding experience. Over time maybe that connection would continue to grow & it would become a tradition. And MAYBE more of them would stay for the whole game.

After this they could do their locker room team tradition with Coach & President ..... whoever is the president at the time. ( President Baker now of course)

Matt Lipman I know things are super busy right now...but is there any way to bring this up to Coach & the players? Thanks, Matt. :-)

If anything they should do this after every victory home & away. There is hardly anything bush league about it...USC (southern cal) does it I believe

You nailed it. It's not about whether we were better than Iowa and/or expected to win. It's about giving a little love to the fans that made the trip to support the team.

Yes. And I think that's important whether home or away. It engages the fans and is another small step in putting more fans in the seats at HS.
