i think those are goods traits to have if you want to build a team, but to build a program you need something more than that.
I dont think their model is sustainable longterm and now that they lost the luster of being that unbeatable BCS buster and now they will go back to being a below average g5 school
People have been saying that for awhile that BSU's time has passed but they always stick around. Getting blown out by Arkansas in the early 2000's they said their time has passed. Getting blown out by Georgia a few years later, they said BSU time has passed. But yet, even then they still come being ranked and then in the BCS buster mode.
So have it while you can. Coach Pete will have his team come back and if they go on a 11 game streak then what else will people say that they haven't heard already.
people can say well we didnt fail in 2000, or in 2005, or in 2010 so we wont fail now.......
but what you have to realize is that times have changed and cfb has changed and those changes are not helping you. the BCS era is over. TCU/utah upgraded and the MWC went from being the best non BCS conference to the 2nd best g5 conference
i respect the hell out of BSU and their accomplishments and BSU being strong is good for CFB. and you changed cfb for the better. but cfb always cycles and sooner or later BSU will fall into a slump
i hope you guys have another good decade in you but right now its now or never if bsu wants to stay at the same level its always been

Have things really changed?
When Boise State busted in 2006 yeah Utah was a non-AQ and so was TCU. There were 66 AQ schools and to bust you had to be the highest rated non-AQ conference champ AND be rated 12 or better (exception duly noted for a non-AQ champ rated 13-16 if an AQ champ was 17 or worse)
Now there are 65 P5 teams and the highest regarded G5 champ is guaranteed a slot. The top group has added Utah and TCU and removed UConn, USF, and Cincinnati.
In 2004 Boise State was #9 but Utah was #6. In 2008 again Utah #6 and Boise #9. In 2009 Boise was invited at-large at #6 because TCU was the qualifier at #4. In 2010 Boise was #10 and at-large eligible but TCU was #3.
Basically the two teams that have stood between Boise and more BCS selections are now in the top group and no longer fighting for that single spot.

Not the world's most likable guy, but that hasn't hindered anyone's celebrity in the past. Unless he pulls an Aaron Hernandez on us, he'll be in the headlines for many years to come. His time has just begun.
Many years to come? Yea, right. But no, his time has not passed. Yet.
The kid will be a stud QB in the NFL. That chip on his shoulder will only help him on the field.

As long as they have Peterson, they'll be fine. They'll compete for MWC titles most years, which means they will compete for the G5 Access bid most years.
The time to watch for a major drop off is if Peterson ever leaves, and they make a bad hire.
you can be a good coach, but not even nick saben could build a decent program in idaho
That's like saying you can't build a decent program in Nebraska. What's the difference?

I fear, you hope. I don't think so, however. Too much unconditional support. In addition, I have a strong suspcision the shuffling is not over.

But it wasn't always that way. Nebraska had to build that over time. On the surface, no one would have expected a school from a tiny farm state out in the middle of nowhere to be able to do that.
With respect to their remoteness and the small states they're in, Boise and Nebraska have a lot in common. There are differences of course as you've pointed out. But what Boise has going for it is California. With only 4 BCS programs in the state, it is severely underrepresented in college football. That means that there are a ton of quality football players left over even after the PAC XII is done picking through the live stock. No one has exploited that fact better than Boise has over the past 15 years. Now that they have established themselves and are in a semi-legit conference, it will only get easier for them. Boise is here to stay. Just like Nebraska.

The Big Ten and SEC conferences sitting at 14 teams should lead anyone to have that same suspicion. The fact that some don't see it that way just goes to show that the country as a whole has done very poorly in terms of mathematics education.

Boise's time as a threat to the big boys is passed.
Understand now?
I'll say yes to both. Tebow should just be happy he gets talking head money with relatively little pressure on him from ESPN and probably tons of speaking engagements as well.
As for Boise, this is where things get muddied for me. I don't think they'll be a perennial playoff crasher like they were under Chris Peterson, but they'll still be a solid mid-major program. Actually, I could see Boise and NIU for that matter almost becoming what programs like Gonzaga and Belmont are to college football: Smaller programs that won't compete for a national title but will still give the big boys a scare if not pull off the upset.

RE: Two things whose time has passed
Tebow gets to cash in on his celebrity status, so he has no worries. He could play in the NFL if he wanted to, but he only wants to be there if he's a starting QB, and no NFL team is offering that.
Boise needs to find themselves another Kellen Moore. Their dropoff the last couple of years is due to not having an adequate replacement for Moore. If they find someone to fill that role, they are still well-positioned to be at the top of the G5 heap.
