No shame but much to prove
No shame in this loss but much has to be proven.

Can defense build on this effort?

Will TO settle down in the pocket and stop firing them high?

Will this team rise? The level of competition at the top of the MAC is tough.

Yeah, they just barely edged a Big Ten school that's projected to win 1 Conference game and maybe go 3-9 or 4-8. Picked to finish at the bottom of the Legends Division below Minnesota.

There is absolutely no shame in your team's performance. Now, it was the first game, and who really knows how good UF's D is going to be this season, but I will go out on a limb and say pretty good.

We shall see as we move forward.

Florida fans are a bit mystified as well. We do need to cut down on penalties, and the down field passing game is still a mystery, apparently. I think Florida will be what they were last year on offense, but a tad better. I think our D ....not going to say it yet...but has the potential to really be very very good. Our special teams will not be as good overall as last year though.

Good luck the rest of the season.

Yes, but I feel a bit better about stopping them after seeing the defense on Saturday. Of course stopping NIU will be based in putting a hand on the QB, which hasn't been done very often in the Harnish/Lynch years.

Those projections on Iowa are going to change Ruddock is a better QB than what you would expect from a Redshirt Freshman.

Not convinced, but perhaps they will be better than 3-9. I can see them starting 4-1 if they are lucky and then dropping 6 of the last 7. I see them as a 5-7 mediocre B10 team that isn't quite ready to compete with the top tier B10 teams.

It's still a great win for the MAC, don't get me wrong. However, if we had to play in the B10 instead of the MAC (this year or last year), it would be a big challenge for either or us to go bowling. Just my opinion...

It's a good win for the MAC and at least the media and skeptics won't be able to say Northern lost to Iowa this year, but in the national picture Iowa is still a bad team.

RE: No shame but much to prove
We were all this negative last year and all we had after game one to pin our hopes on was the special teams. Remember special teams TWO years ago!

As UT fans I think we come to expect absolutely the best offense. After Fl we see we have good special teams AND good D. I KNOW we have a good offense. The kid is smart. Fearless. The coaches will help Owens get his touch worked out so the timing between him and receiver works out. Do you know, it's actually possible for the ball to be in the receiver's hands before the receiver even knows the ball has been thrown? Funny time travel problem that. I should work out the timing but Owens cranks that ball so hard to moving receivers that are MUCH closer than a pitcher is to a static catcher, what I'm saying might be possible. Thrown that fast, the hands are not catching the ball. The ball is hitting the hands. The brain has that much time to process that a ball was thrown, back fill in the flight and the ball hitting the hands, then tell the hands to hold onto it, before it gets away. Thrown too fast, the brain doesn't have a chance to do all that before the ball is out of the receiver's sight and on the way to the ground or into a defender's hands.

Read that in a book.

This is a tough schedule but I think it's going to be a fun year.
