Hope we hear it formally soon. The silence makes me uneasy.
Maybe they think Homecoming would be a good time to announce it?

Thanks for posting this, Grungy. A very nice read with many nice pictures of HRS.
I'm sure it can help both the coaches and the AD in recruiting and promoting Rice to the casual fan.

If we don't hear anything soon, they probably won't start until the end of the 2014 season. This is getting frustrating

My suspicion is that the announcement will be planned for when it will do us the most good from a public and performance standpoint, and not necessarily as hungry alumni.... which is why I postulate dead (recruiting) week, or some time when it would positively impact 2014 recruits and nobody else has anything to distract them either... which I would venture to guess would be AFTER bowl season... but that is purely my guess. I wouldn't imagine that the construction would have a negative impact on next season if it were still under construction during the season. Nobody sits in the north end and you wouldn't need to tear down the south until the north were ready. Again, that is a guess, knowing little to nothing about this sort of construction, but it makes some sense to me. Given our penchant, we could announce this thing in January and have it significantly under way by February... and any "temporary" measures well in place by the season... because the bulk (if not all of the) money is already in place.
Quite honestly, I believe the announcement and the start of construction will have as big an impact on things as the actual facility will.

Very true. I'm so excited about it that I just want to see things get going. I've been waiting since I was a kid, sitting on those splintered benches with my dad.

I actually read the brochure which came with the season ticket package. The list of "approved caterers" makes me wonder whether food trucks would be welcomed.
The other thing about food trucks ( for those who might never have dined with one ) ... the food is made-to-order which means you're going to wait five to ten minutes while your grub is whipped up. Not sure that model would work well at a FB game.
Invite the food trucks, make a HRS-specific app where all the vendors for that game have menus listed so fans can order and pay from their seats, with a 10-minute pick-up delay.

We don't have to invent anything, this has already been done. When you have a food truck event (e.g. Gypsy Picnic in Austin) the trucks reduce their menu to 2-4 items which can be prepared either in advance or quickly to keep the lines moving.
