Exclamation S.Miss Fans
So with a day out from kickofff what is your confidence level right now? How do you feel about the QB position?

Have no idea who the quarterback is, so I cannot really say. I know Monken is a highly skilled quarterback coach and had 3 ready at OSU last year. All we need is one to be serviceable. I think we have possibly one of the best stables of running backs in the country and our interior d-line can compete with anyone. It appears that a lot of Freshman have made the depth chart at receiver and some are starting. My personal opinion is that I am Cautiously optimisitic

Bet 650/500 on us (-6.5)....it's our D that is going to shine this year.

If AB and our OL perform, that will just be a bonus tomorrow and the rest of the year.

Oops...did I name our starter?

after last year, I don't think you're going to get any of us to say very much. you may or may not have noticed this, but as a group, we're just not getting out in front of our skis these days.

on edit: except for stink, of course, who is our version of edward snowden -- and I certainly mean that in the strongly positive, whistle blowing sense03-shhhh03-lmfao

I'm excitedly optimistic. Last year I was cautiously optimistic. This team will be much more like the 2011 version of the Golden Eagles than the 2012 version.

Everything points to the Cal transfer, Bridgford, being the starting QB. It may take a few games, but this team will be very good and will have say in who is playing in the C-USA Championship game from the East.

I'm a half glass full kinda guy.. Which means I think we're going to be ok, but if not, I have a bottle of Bourbon that is untouched in case we're not to crack open starting next week at Nebraska.

re: nebraska : not giving up in the 3rd qtr when you're only down 10 points would be an improvement.

Exactly.. I hope to make it the entire season without opening that bottle of Maker's 46.

If our defense "shines," we'll win at least eight games this year.

Given the defenses we face, the system we run, and the running backs we have, our offense will put up numbers.

You can't assume that we'll be scoring TD's though. Remember Fedora's first few seasons, the offense could move the ball at will, but our problem was once we got in the redzone we'd stall out and have to settle for FGs. We lost numerous conference games by less than a TD and Hrapmann was kicking FGs it seemed like every drive.

Have to score TDs and not FGs.

Monken was asked at the Radio Show last night if our defense would be better against the run or the pass and he said he didn't know because they've only been up against our offense. Don't know what he meant by that, but I didn't take it as a compliment to our offense.

I think, more than anything, is that Monken is thinking (and has been saying) that we wont know how good we are until we start playing other teams. That is when the true tests will come. I expect the offense to put up a lot of points this season, though there will probably be a lot of inconsistency early on.

"possibly one of the best stables of running backs in the country". I follow Conf USA quite a bit and have not heard much about Southern Miss rb's. What makes you say this?
