A Bit of Irony
Happened to notice that we're already seeing college basketball mags come out in late August no less. The Sporting News version had a page or so on program winners and losers, so to speak. In the winners grouping was Towson, given a chance to compete for a CAA title after being so bad just a couple of years ago. In the losers grouping was Ole Dirty, of which writer Mike DeCourcy said that their fans were yearning for the days of regional rivalries with the likes of Delaware and James Madison rather than the UTSAs of the world, all for the sake of FBS football. And said that teams looking to move up to FBS will never aspire to the level of the Alabamas of the world.

In the conference preview section, said that CAA hoped to become multi-bid league, believe it or not (although not necessarily this season). Had JMU picked third, with Nation first-team all conference and Yohanny Dalembert best newcomer to the conference.

At least for Dukeman's sake, there was no mention of a possible Michael Holmes transfer or an NFL move by Justin Thorpe.

DeCourcy must be clairvoyant to know ODU fans are already yearning for past rivals, before they have even yet played a single game in CUSA. Remind me to ask him for next week's lotto numbers.

His points are valid in that even cusa teams will be nowhere near the bcs programs at any point in the future. However, I'd rather be a lower half fbs team then playing st Francis and Morehead state from now until the end of time. We're in a conference that has a team on a 14 game losing streak.

33-18 That is the score in Towson's win over UConn last night a BCS school. That is a two touchdown road victory. Proves the CAA is still a quality league that at the top can compete with FBS teams.

UConn and the AAC are no longer a BCS team/league. They may have one bcs bowl bid this year because of the old Big East contract, but they're by no means a BCS team. As far as I'm concerned, the former BE teams that didn't find a new BCS home are no longer BCS teams effective immediatley. UConn, USF, Cincinnati are all closer to CUSA than the ACC or Big 10.

JMU is not going to be Ivy anytime soon, JMU should consider putting limits on academic potential. Maybe start a regional MBA program, the only program is the region that specializes in risk-avoidance at all costs & reaction to the competition.

We all hear what we want to hear and rationalize what we want to rationalize.

Go Dukes

RE: A Bit of Irony
Just to get back to the hoops portion of this article, it's not at all crazy to think of the CAA as a multi-bid league this year. It probably won't happen because the national storyline is "the crumbling CAA," but it's going to be a very strong league through the top 5 or 6 teams this year with Towson and CofC in the mix. Delaware will be good again, Drexel should be fine, JMU may take a while but will improve.

That said, I realllllly hope we're ineligible for the auto-bid this year 03-wink. 05-stirthepot

I'm on your side, but this point isn't a good one to use. Would you have wanted out of the ACC based off of Duke only a few years back? I guess that's why UMD jumped ship! NOT! Almost every conference has a URI.

ODU basketball fans may well be yearning for alot of things, but trust me, the lastest version of the CAA is not one of them.
