RE: ACC proves that it is the best talent evaluator in college sports
i dont see navy for a number of reasons

1. they are a little brother school. its the same as the b12 adding colorado state. they are not gonna add an inferior school to gain back a region they lost. its embarrassing and it admits defeat

2. being a service academy raises some serious issues about how to distribute conference revenue. service academies are technically not suppose to operate for profit and the sudden influx of money will be unprecedented for a service academy.

3. navy isnt very good in football and terrible in non football sports

Villanova 14
Boston College 7

Not that we're bragging about the win, but, perhaps you should wait until the game is over before you post this type of nonsense. Final score:
Villanova 14
Boston College 24

on a side note it must suck being a uconn fan, everything from losing your conference, to a very dumb logo change and you guys just cant catch a break

UCONN's one loss proves all that to you? Deduce much?

getting own by an FCS team? no that doesnt show it. but being d1 for only 10 years and losing all your FB & BB rivals sure does........

The ACC is not going to 17 teams unless there are changes to NCAA rules, Division 4 rules, and to the ACC charter. The old inner core of former Southern Conference Schools - the current schools who were SoCon schools - UVA/VT/UNC/NCSU/Duke/WF/GT/Clemson will not agree to a situation where they feel potentially outvoted. While much is made of Clemson not getting along with UNC, it's very much an "in-the-family" thing.

If you add Navy, and you think you need to add a basketball school - it will be Georgetown. That sticks it to Maryland, that provides keen interest for VT and UVa and provides Navy with a close by partner. However at 17 you need 13 to do major things - if Navy and Gtown are given full votes.

In 32 the SoCon had 23 schools. 13 left to form the SEC. Tulane, GT, and Sewanne all left the SEC. In 1952 the SoCon has regrown to 17 with the problematic addition of West Va., and the league fell apart over football policy.

I never said they should go to 17. In fact I said if they brought in ND as 15 and then were looking at 16.

Also GTown isn't coming to the ACC. Never going to happen. They make just as much money in the BE and have a lot more say in their own future. Thats why the C7 left. They wanted control of their own destiny. Gtown is the big dog now, why become a second class member who has no say in conference matters? They would essentially become an associate member.

ACC fans love to think they can just take any BBall school they want. They forget that the BBall schools were the only loyal ones during conference realignment. They could have easily jettisoned Seton Hall and brought in a bigger sexier name like VCU or Saint Louis but didn't.

Did you miss ND joining the ACC? ND joined as the ACC's 15th and will slide down to the 14th in 2014. Louisville will join next year as the new 15th.

The ACC formed as follows:

1-4 (MD/Duke/Clemson/SC) 1953
5-7 (UNC/NC State/Wake) 1953
8 (UVa) 1953
SC leaves in 1971
8 (GT) 1978
9 (FSU) 1991
10-11 (Miami, VT) 2003
12 (BC) 2004
13-15 (ND/Syracuse/Pitt) 2012
MD leaves in 2014
15 (Louisville) 2014

While it seems popular for some folks to mention Notre Dame as if they are not an ACC member - the fact is they are an ACC member.

RE: ACC proves that it is the best talent evaluator in college sports
i dont think notre dame counts as a true ACC member and heres why.....

-they play as an indy in a sport that the ACC sponsors

sure there are plenty of b10, sec, b12, acc & pac12 members who compete as indy's or affiliates for certain sports, but they only do so because their home conference doesnt compete in that particular sport. every other power school does not compete separately in a sport that their conference already competes in

b10 hockey is a great example. five b10 schools had great history and a great thing going with their current conferences. when psu decided to play hockey the other 5 schools left their current conferences to form a new b10 conference. they left to join a smaller and probably weaker conference because they had to fulfill their b10 obligations. that speaks volumes of the loyalty between these schools and their shared goal of bettering the conference and not themselves.

ND will never be a true ACC member because they dont care about bettering the conference. if they did they would be competing in football. notre dame is still looking out for themselves and not the ACC

You don't think UNC looks after UNC first and the ACC second?

ND gave up 5 football games to the ACC office. Just adding ND in basketball makes the league better, more marketable, etc.

The ACC does not need Notre Dame in the conference race to profit from ND. ND has long standing ties to USC, Stanford, and Navy - what does the ACC gain by forcing ND out of those games and replacing them with Duke, or Wake? Tell me how the ACC profits by curtailing ND's national appeal?

We will have a 13th game in a few years, and depending on how other things fall, the right 16th team will be a team ND wants to play every year. No need for the ACC to put a gun to ND's head. They are a good ACC partner.

the difference between unc & the acc vs nd & the acc is that unc wont do anything to better themselves if it means hurting the ACC. ND only cares about keeping the money flowing towards them, keeping the catholics happy and making sure their non FB sports dont become homeless

ND gave up 5 games to the ACC.......but in 2011 & 2012 ND played 3 ACC teams + pitt. add that they already had a future series scheduled with syracuse, a series to finish with miami and are rivals with bc & pitt saying ND is "giving up" 5 games to the ACC is a joke......

reality is they are only adding 1-2 (occasionally 3) acc games to their schedule a year

ND & the ACC have a sweet deal, but at the end of the day they only play 5 acc teams a year while everyone else plays 8. they have a different set of rules aimed at fattening their wallets. so yeah they dont have the right to say that they are anything more than an affiliate member of the ACC.

what? all im saying is that ND isnt a full member. i wouldnt call that a hard on.

unc is a charter member and has a deep relationship with multiple acc schools and i dont see them damaging those relationships

in the past tobacco road ran that conference to benefit themselves. but a lots changed and a good example has been the addition of 2 more northern teams and attempts to put the bb tourny in NYC. i think the days of TR are long gone.
