Pitt and Cuse did nothing in the Big East yet got an invitation. Cincinnati was the best football program in the league for the last five years and got nothing. So his implications are not true. I think UC has to remain in the hunt for the title most of the year if not winning the title. I do think it's important that our athletic programs be successful as much as possible including winning titles. Attendance is important, revenue is important.
Koch is indeed full of crap, but the point has some merit. Pitt & Cuse have history - people know who they are and have a high opinion of them (right or wrong). Perception matters and that helped get them in. We have to create our name and cast it in stone, and the best way is to win big. While dominate may be a strong word, we have to be THE team in the AAC. The opportunities for nationally televised games for the AAC will be few and far between. To stay in the national collective conscience, we need 99% of those games to involve UC. That only happens if we're dominating.

Everything is tied together, so this will help the other items that I agree with - Attendance/revenue/merchandising/etc.
