Bump. For last week's games, "random ai" tied for best score. I know random ai, and he does pick at random. We collectively can't let this happen again :).

Bump. I'm going to be at a wedding all weekend, so unfortunately I'm going to miss the game and will be a little slower than usual updating the results this weekend. Cheer loud and GO DUKES!

RE: CAA Pick 'Em Challenge
Apologies for the delay. I just got home and updated the results for this weekend. We had a record 9-way tie for best performance this week.

Yeah, W&M @ UNH & Maine @ SBU I went 50%. The other 4 100%.

RE: CAA Pick 'Em Challenge
I decided to have a little fun and perform a quick machine learning analysis on all predictions through week 8 to determine which groups of participants tend to predict most similarly with one-another. Specifically, I iteratively ran a standard K-Means cluster analysis on the predictions to see what similarity clusters fell out. Given the nature of the algorithm, some inherent randomness exists in these results, but rerunning over many thousands of iterations does produce fairly stable results.

The participant clusters fall out below. Users who share a cluster tend to predict more similarly with each other than with those who are not in their cluster. That's all it means. In other words, cluster 1 is not "better" than cluster 4, just simply different. Note that user "random ai" has a cluster all to himself (this conveniently provides a nice sanity check on the results!). Enjoy:

RE: CAA Pick 'Em Challenge
I'll give the weekly bump.

Didn't do a CAA prediction thread last week, as there seems to have been declining interest. I see on here I was the only 1 to go with UR over VU. After VU thumped JMU I was thinking UR would be the only CAA team to beat VU. Then after Strauss and Barnette went down for UR figured that wouldn't be the case. But then I went back the previous 11 seasons and saw that there had never been 2 CAA teams going 8-0 in CAA play in the same season, and even 1 team going 8-0 in CAA play only happened twice over that period, UMass in 06' and JMU in 08'. So that meant either UR or UNH HAD to lose a CAA game. Looking at their last 8 CAA games (4 each) the most logical one was UR over VU.

I got it to work ... after clicking 2 and 3 times for each screen. I also keep getting an add for Java HD to be installed ... 01-wingedeagle

Thanks for all your hard work ... it has been fun!

No problem! Agreed, the adds are quite annoying. I think that's new this year. Going back to an earlier comment on this thread, I may just shell out the $5/month to get a more reliable, add-free service for next season.

Hey Lyric, you doing this again this year?

I would like to, but unfortunately, it appears that the web hosting service I had been using deleted my entire database and all of its tables sometime during the offseason. Because I made the tables by hand instead of using a script (oops), I'm not sure how easily I could remember the exact data schema I had before (it was fairly complicated because I designed it with an eye for expanding the capabilities down the road). It's dreaded proposal season at work right now, so I won't be able to sort all of this out before Thursday when the season starts. I'm sad to say that it looks like I may not be able to run the challenge this year. I hope to be able to run it next year, though.

We could do it on this site, but that would mean signing up as another user

RE: CAA Pick 'Em Challenge
Alright guys if you are interested please let me know. First games are Thursday night but I am not going to add the work if no one is interested (no offense). It will only take me a few hours to get things setup so I could post a link to enter later tonight or first thing in the morning.
