Wasn't Gaines just recently named captain for the season? Tough to have the defensive captain suspended out of the gate. Hope there aren't collateral effects.

Francis was listed at the top of the depth chart on that side after spring ball (in which Gaines was held out due to injury). I guess we will see when the game notes come out.

That's unfortunate to hear. It would have been a big boost, great experience for him, and a boost to his draft stock if he performed well.

I do feel like I've read on here numerous times that Bailiff is too easy on his players though...

Meanwhile, one Aggie is sitting out half a game for misdemeanor assault.

This suspension is serious and is for our hardest game - how many other schools would do that to one of their top players? Props to DB for not sending the "you are above the law" message like other coaches.

Bummer for Gaines and family. Hope the other CB's are ready, in my mental preview of the game I imagined Gaines with a lot of PBU's and Callahan with a couple INT's. Need someone else to step up and help keep a lid on the A&M passing game.

This probably hurts him as a competitor and as an NFL prospect... this would have been a place to showcase his talents on the national stage. Having forgone the chance to declare early for the NFL after last season, I'm sure this was something he'd looked forward to.

Whatever the transgression was, I hope he learns from it and it helps build his character... after all, this is one area that I think is a strength of coach Bailiff.

Bailiff actually says Darrion Pollard, who redshirted last season. I wonder if he might have actually said/meant the elder Pollard, but we'll see. Also mentions Blasingame and Canady.

Gaines will travel with the team as the captain but obviously won't play.

Kutzler as previously mentioned will start for Nwosu.

Dennis Parks is doubtful at WR.

Great...two out of the three were off the field incidents. It is tough enough when you lose players in games or practices.

Good to see Canady mentioned. CB is a position where a young guy should be able to come in and play right away.

BTW, I take it you guys have read that A&M's starting CB is suspended for the one game, and their starting safety for half a game? This was in today's Chicago Tribune, of all places.

That's a whole lot of "youth" in those back ups. But Bailiffs statement to the media on riceowls.com makes me hope that we will be ready.

Wonder what he did to get suspended for half a game? And is that 2 consecutive quarters? Or could he sit out the first and third? Or maybe a quarter against us and one against Sam.
Seems bogus and self- serving at best for the Ags attempt at team discipline.
