AAC fans, lets embrace the hate. Lets get under their skin. Football, basketball, freaking field hockey...I don't give a s*#t.
Lets beat the "so-called" Power 5 in everything we do. Force ourselves into the conversation for every championship imaginable. Louisville has already done it. And it's time for the rest of us to each step up our game in all that we do!!
Amen. We have to scratch and claw, then spit in their eye.
I hope this kid says academics was his biggest issue. He wanted to pick the best school on his short list, and SMU was simply better than the others when it came to academics.
But I'm not assuming anything until it actually happens.

Nation #1 2014 Basketball Player Emmanuel Mudiay to SMU?!?!?!..,
He is very close with his family and he has friends on the SMU team. That plus Larry Brown/Ulric Maligi have us in the conversation. No matter how this goes, to be in the conversation at this point is amazing. Especially given that to hear PirateMarv tell it, our only good recruiter was Jerrance Howard.

So you going to start again, huh? Howard helped land Wiggins, who is this year's number 1 player.
At least get the kid signed first, which is another matter as long as Worldwide Wes and Calipari still have this kid's number. WWW and Cal supposedly gave Anthony Davis' dad six figures; so it is a good land by Brown if it holds and I hope Muiday's dad likes his new assistant coaching position under Brown at SMU.

This league is going to be a heck of basketball conference. Top three conference this season with a chance to stay there after Louisville leaves. Its going to be difficult to move past the 15 team ACC but they will find out that being big isn't that great from the middle of the pack schools. The Big Ten is in solid shape to stay a top league; however, only Maryland added anything to the basketball side of things.
If the American can stay together it should be stronger than most of the leagues in this group every season: SEC, Big XII, Big East, PAC-12, and the Mountain West.

Maligi is one of the best recruiters .. As ling as he is there they will get top recruits.. He got it started back for us at UH. He is going to sell Larry Brown to all recruits, got great connections with AAU scene. I wish we paid him more money to keep him at UH

I wish Tulane would make the same type of financially commitment in hoops that SMU has. Tulane has the exact same ability to hire big money coaches and if they did would have a lot of attractive things to sell to recruits.

I never said Howard was a bad recruiter, just that Maligi was responsible for more than you gave him credit for. Maybe you will some day admit that you underestimated the rest of our staff

I didn't underestimate your staff; I said that Howard was an excellent recruiter. I live in Chicago and I have been following high school basketball since I was a kid back in the 70's and as I told you Howard was one of the better recruiters that Illinois has had, which is saying something considering all of the excellent players that that school gets. Your bone of contention should be with the writer of the article who played Howard up to your obvious displeasure.
As for Muiday himself it will be a good get for SMU and hopefully it holds, because it will be good for the conference; but just so you know it, if you use ESPN as your ranking source then they have Muiday as the number 5 recruit in the Country behind Okafor and Alexander from Chicago; Jones from Minnesota and Lyles from Indiana.

I don't believe that was your original stance but I can certainly agree with your current stance. And various sources have Mudiay between #1 and #5 - any way you slice it, he will be a good get for whichever school he lands at.

Congratulations to SMU! As I said on the Memphis board, SMU, Tulsa and Tulane can all have strong basketball programs if they set their minds to it. Prestigious degrees + large city location + money to hire big-name coaches is an advantageous combination. Now they also belong to a fairly prestigious basketball conference with great national exposure.
AAC basketball has remarkable potential.

If SMU is going to start getting top 5 recruits, our conference will be really, really good. We could be (should be) better than the SEC, PAC 12, and Big 12. Probably better than the B1G. In the end, we may only look up to the ACC ... and not by much.
