Get your stadium built and establish a program and build a baseball fan base first. A regional is a long, long, long, long, long way off in playing in one much less hosting one. Stadiums can be expanded.
While I think the concern over 2,500 is not important (all that would be needed is temporary seating anyway and unless the field has 160' lines there'll be plenty of room for temp seats to satisfy any 3,000 requirement)......
I do, however, think you are extremely incorrect about any potential regional play is a long long long long way off --- for several reasons (1) it's not nearly the length of time to get a top notch baseball program as it is football or even basketball (assuming commitment from admin to HAVE a top notch program); (2) Denton is right there with a very large baseball hotspot meaning lots of recruits are available; (3) Baseball teams can only have (approximately) 11-12 scholarships per team...almost everyone is either a walk-on or has less than a full scholarship. (4) Most universities require payment of out of state tuition for out of state athletes (from the athletic department coffers to the general fund coffers) - since baseball is not a money generator there's a tendency to recruit more in-state players...Texas has a ton of in-state players from which to recruit and from which ou, osu and other nearby universities will typically not recruit (not always, but a standard approach)...(5) considerably decreased "red shirts" in baseball (for the aforementioned financial reasons)...(6) a ton of JC transfers are primary contributors in college baseball...(7) lots and lots more reasons but I'm tired of writing.
A new baseball team with a wise choice of coaches and proper facilities can be very successful by year three.
where do people come up with crap like this.....yea OU is going to scrimp on where they recruit players from because of some (probably factually incorrect) notion that the university might make athletics pay out of state tuition for baseball players

19 out of 32 players on the OU baseball team are from Texas with a large number from the metromess
9 for OkState with several from the metromess
11 for Arkansas with the vast majority of those 11 from the metromess
add in that while north Texas state and SMU do not have baseball Dallas Baptist and UTA do
not to mention there are 21 D1-A Baseball programs in Texas vs 12 D1-A football programs and there are 12 in Louisiana VS 5 for football and 3 in Oklahoma with ORU instead of Tulsa
so there is going to be plenty of competition for recruits coming out of the DFW from both in state and out of state programs
La Tech with 11 recruits out of Texas and a majority from the metromess
http://www.latechsports.com/sports/m-bas...l-mtt.html
See You Later McNeese State with 9
http://www.mcneesesports.com/roster.aspx?path=baseball
Tulane 9 out of Texas
http://www.tulanegreenwave.com/sports/m-...l-mtt.html
7 for Oral Roberts

so really it is pretty clear that major and minor baseball programs will recruit wherever they need to to feel they can compete and they will especially recruit Texas and the DFW metro area and with 21 programs in Texas 12 in Louisiana and 3 in Oklahoma for 36 total programs in baseball VS 20 for football in D1-A
and there are 3 metroplex D1-A baseball programs just like 3 football programs so it is pretty clear the competition for recruits is as intense in the DFW metro area and in Texas if not more intense for baseball VS football
there are also 36 JuCo baseball programs in Texas VS 6 JuCo football programs and with minor leagues so prevalent for baseball that does not mean there will be more JuCo players available to recruit for D1-A programs it means there are more places for players to go play a season or two before they try and get some type of pro league offer and then of course there is the fact that baseball signs players right out of high school which is direct competition for D1-A baseball unlike football
but hey it is north Texas state all they have ever had to do is just start a program and watch success flow in with ease!!!
