RE: CAA Football Predictions - Week 1
8/29 - Rhode Island @ Fordham
Towson @ Connecticut
Jacksonville @ Delaware - Somewhat of a toss-up when looking at stats, but I'll give UD the advantage at home in their opener with a new head coach. I could see JU beating UD though.

8/31 - Villanova @ Boston College
William & Mary @ West Virginia
Albany @ Duquesne - Albany lost a lot of starters, but I still think they're good enough to handle the other Dukes.
Central Connecticut State @ James Madison
Virginia Military Institute @ Richmond
Maine @ Norfolk State - I thought this was a toss-up, until I saw a significant PPG advantage to Maine.

Did you have a brain fart and type Jacksonville instead of UD? The NEC is a non scholly conference thats nothing more than a glorified Div III conference, many of whos teams still schedule Div IIIs. JU might be good for the NEC, but that's not saying much. Heck, I'd even pick URI against them. UD will roll them- won't be remotely close.

Jacksonville is not located in the northeast, and is in the pioneer league. They have been one of the consistent teams in Fcs as far as I can remember and they beat odu in 09 or 10. Combine the fact that their stats aren't too far off from UD's and they could beat UD. They "shouldn't", but I'd say that it's the closest to a toss up of any of the week 1 games.
To pick uri to beat any Fcs team right now is just silly IMO. They're likely among the five worst Fcs teams in the country and I won't pick them to win any game until they... Well, actually win a game.

Jacksonville's conference is pretty weak so I'm not sure they stand much of a chance. They may have the ODU win, but Jacksonville has lost badly whenever they have faced a team from the SoCon so I'd imagine that will be the case with UD as well.

RE: CAA Football Predictions - Week 1
Rhode Island (0-11) @ Fordham (6-5) - you're only as good as your weakest link. URI wins on the road to show the CAA is back as the dominant FCS conference.

Towson (7-4) @ Connecticut (5-7) - I'm seeing a disappointing season for Towson in comparison to preseason hype

Jacksonville (7-4) @ Delaware (5-6) - Delaware wins easily.

Villanova (8-4) @ Boston College (2-10) - BC wins a close one.

William & Mary (2-9) @ West Virginia (7-6) - WVU wins big

Albany (9-2) @ Duquesne (5-6) - Albany by a late FG

Central Connecticut State (2-8) @ James Madison (7-4) - this isn't your older brother's CCSU....JMU wins big and puts up 40+ points.

Virginia Military Institute (2-9) @ Richmond (8-3) - BIG rivalry game to start off the season for both. Ok, not really a BIG rivalry. UofNJ-VA wins easily

Maine (5-6) @ Norfolk State (4-7) - Maine. just because.

I predict either Villanova or Towson is going to win. Neither would surprise me.

I expect Villanova to be scary good again...similar to their 2009 team. Upsetting BC wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I think Villanova is going to be pretty good too. It's amazing that as much as we talk about facilities and everything, Andy Talley still gets great athletes to come to Villanova to play football over all these years. You really have to tip your cap to that guy. Really good school but no college football atmosphere and that guy will just pluck kids out of California who can really play somehow.

I was at the JMU at VU game last year and I was literally stunned at how subdued everything was there. At times the JMU fans were making far more noise than the VU fans and they outnumbered us like 4:1.

I guess people scoff at the football team because they play in a lesser level (much lesser considering where they stand in basketball usually)...I wonder how much more support they'd get if they played in the MAC or AAC.

My wife and I were at the JMU-VU game last year also. Old stadium, no atmosphere at all. That being said, as someone else has already noted, Coach Talley
certainly gets good players and can coach a good team. They will be tough this year but at least we have them at home!!
