Thought North Texas hadn't played baseball for a long time. Seriously.

Look, let the guy enjoy this. If you were a NT fan, what source of enjoyment could you get from being a fan? They were invited to CUSA. That is it. The football is God awfully atrocious.

I suggest Liberty University and the University of Phoenix. Two great schools that would compliment the Sunbelt members.

Could only see C-USA as a possibility for them.

How about Alabama State, Kentucky State, Tennessee State or Virginia State? It's not like the Sun Belt was in those states before. UAB, Middle Tennessee, VCU, WKU came from those markets.

I think he is trying to get us to look at HBCUs. I'm not opposed to that, and there is history with that. Florida A&M was slated to join the Sun Belt and move up to FBS a decade or so ago. They decided not to jump at the last minute, forcing us to scramble for a replacement team.

I think Alabama State is the only relevant HBCU option at this point, but that group seems more interested in staying together than trying to force their way into FBS.

I was always under the impression that HBCU = Historically Budget Challenged Universities.

It was that way at least in Texas. Always struggled to fund sports properly. Is that not the case elsewhere?

FAMU decided to not jump due to budgetary constraints. Also, FAMU is located in the same city as Florida State, Tallahassee.

Regarding the funding of HBCU's, one must look at the history of the genesis of these institutions. They can be divided into two groups. The first were very thinly capitalized Private schools, many of which struggle tremendously. I wont discuss them in this context as few of them play FCS football (Bethune-Cookman, Hampton, and Howard are the only ones) and none play FBS football.

For the public HBCUs, the issue is that many of them were funded, and in some cases, founded, to maintain the fiction of separate but equal in education. The reality was that these separate schools were never funded equally. Another issue impacting HBCU's is the legacy of racism and its impact on the earning (and therefore donating) power of its' alumni. Until recently, African Americans were basically barred either through overt or de facto discrimination from earning high incomes, especially in the South, where most of these schools are located (only three public HBCU's are located outside the historically slave holding states).

It would have been very interesting to see if FAMU could have made a run of it at FBS. And what the impact of FAMU's jump to FBS would have had on the SWAC and the MEAC.

The short answer is, yes most HBCU's have funding issues. A bit off topic, but I gave you the long answer.

Thought had read that Florida A&M discovered huge financial problems that had been kept secret by their then administration.
Apologies if incorrect, but believe that was the case.
