Looks like Ray Guy may get into the HOF
Happy for him and USM if it happens in February. Ray deserves it.

Ray closer to the HOF

That would be awesome. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I played punter and have a soft spot for getting a punter into the HOF. Not to mention Ray Guys performance is easily worthy of the HOF.

I couldn't punt a ball.. I don't know if my mechanics were off or what, so anyone that can punt the ball as well as Ray Guy did, it's a task that should be complimented.

About ******* time. Name one other player on any team in any era who dominated his position like Guy dominated his.

Ask who's the best quarterback, running back, linebacker, receiver ever, you get a debate.

Ask who's the best punter ever? There's one answer.

His senior year at Southern Miss he had 9 interceptions as a defensive back, lead the country in punting, and had the longest field goal in NCAA history at the time on his resume....and by the way, he was backup quarterback. He also was an outstanding pitcher on the baseball team.

Ray hit the roof of the superdome with his kicks. Some punters since have been able to have comparable distance but no one can get the height and distance consistently like Ray could.

He is the all-time leader in INT's, longest field goal, longest punt, and most no-hitters in USM history.

The Guy got drafted 4 times total. 3 in baseball and once in football. Pretty sure he would have been a good secondary player in the NFL if he would have had the chance. He knocked some player's teeth out once.

He was not your typical punter.

I have actually heard a couple older USM fans that would argue that Jerrell Wilson was a better pro punter than Ray Guy. But it was always older guys that were on the USM teams with Wilson that told me that.

The most amazing thing with Guy and his pro career, IMO, is that he only had 3 punts blocked, in 14 seasons and 1049 punts.

Modern day, I'd have to say Shane Lechler would have a good case against Ray Guy, but that's it.

Remember the debate about punters hitting the Cowboys super-screen? If there's one guy I think could do it regularly.. it'd be Super-punter Ray!

Long, long overdue. I once seen that man punt a (bleeping) football 83 yards in a game! In the air, to hell with it taking a "Raiders bounce"...If anyone deserve to be in the Pro Football Hall Of Fame, it's Ray (bleeping) Guy!!!

I wont ever forget as a kid usm getting robbed in oxfart. But the funniest thing was the om coach i think it was kennard at the time. His quote was "Its really dishearting to your defense when you work hard to hold someone inside their own 5 yard line. You force a punt thinking you will get good field position and you have to take the ball 1st and 10 at your own 20."

I think that 96 yarder stood till just a few years ago.

Good for Ray Guy! I've never seen anyone play the position of punter as well as he did. It's ridiculous that he wasn't elected into the NFL HOF in his first year of eligibility.

Ray Guy once helped me jump start my car in Hattiesburg when I was in school. I didn't realize it was him until I drove away.

Ray Guy revived an almost dead Chuck Norris with a swift kick to the junk. They're still friends til this day.

The best stat with Ray is that he never had a punt returned for a TD. He kicked them too high, and if the returner got past the other 10 guys he would make the tackle.

I believe that would be the scoreboard in the Super Dome and not the ceiling.
