Tech names Scotty Young starting QB
Barring an injury or a disastrous performance in Friday's scrimmage, Louisiana Tech quarterback Scotty Young will start in the season opener Aug. 31 at North Carolina State.

Tech coach Skip Holtz announced the decision after Thursday's practice, noting Young, a transfer from Texas Tech, has secured the position at this point.

Love that UNT passed on Young and grabbed up Berglund...who'll likely start the season #3.

Good job UNT!

I've gotta root for Scotty (when he's not playing UNT) . . . he was a great HS QB back at Ryan HS in Denton. I look for good things from him.

Mac wants a duel threat QB and Scotty is not very mobile.

We'll all wish Scott Young good luck at La Tech this Fall until he plays you know who, of course. We do tend to pull for our former Denton ISD football players.

North Texas has a wealth of QB's any of whom can probably start. We've not had this kind of "good" QB problem in the 40 years I've followed this program.

I think Bergland will see plenty of playing time this Fall and I think UNT coaches want some out there to believe he's #3 (which has mostly been a UNT message board urban tale continually flamed by fans who've never seen him even practice). Those who did see him practice were very impressed with what they saw with Berglund. He had a Spring injury that did set him back a bit. I assure you when some of yall see him this Fall you'll say: "Who the hell ever said this guy was #3 or would stay at #3 (if he ever was)?"

At 6' 4" 215 he is quite mobil and has a pretty quick release as the below video will show. (Read the comments below the video from mostly non-North Texas fans for an unbiased critique of this QB) . Sorry, I don't see this kid staying on the bench too long this Fall. Derek Thompson, our 5'th year senior is hardly chopped liver, either. Ask KSU's Bill Snyder about that.

Your right...sorry 'bout that. I was mostly responding to another UNT fan but I did wish La Tech (and ex Denton ISD great) Scotty Young a successful season.04-cheers

I think we're all just excited about football season finally beginning in a bit over a week.
