Is today opposite day? Although I enjoyed my honeymoon in Maui way back when, none of our players wanted to go when the team bowled there and were upset because parents couldn't afford to go. My family was angry with me as I kept watching it during our family Christmas eve. It plugs a number, so it is a positive, but I couldn't find a bowl on the board that I would want less than the Hawaii Bow.

Pretty much "ditto". It's a bowl and I'd like SOUTHERN MISS to go there rather than sit at home. I'd include the 'tater Bowl in that same category too, though.

The fan side of me wishes we had a closer bowl in 11, like the liberty where we should have been without being screwed for Memphis to get a big east invite.
The parent side was happy, my kid had a blast out there.

Can't wait for us to win our next conference title and end up there again!

. . . and lose your coach, fire everyone in sight, set off a year long war about the AD position, and then go 0-12.

I can't think of two schools that are as culturally different as that series.
You LaTech guys have to be glad to get away from that conference.

I wonder where the AAC goes the rest of the time. 3/6 split with CUSA in the NO bowl?

The Hawaii Bowl sucks for some fans though.. Hard to leave family to go to Hawaii on Christmas Eve to watch a bowl game.

Then just do like everyone else and watch it on TV. Bowl games are rewards for players.

You won't find one USM player that didn't have an awesome time going to Hawaii for an extended stay, for free.

never bought into that. I always thought success was the biggest reward for players. winning. for that to be true, you would have to think that players play strictly in hopes of going to an exotic place after the season.

I always thought that fedora picked the hawaii bowl because it was earlier in the bowl season, and he could move on to his next stop in life sooner. I mean, I love the guy (although he was the only coach I ever saw that could score 50 points a game and lose with regularity), but I always thought he was ready to move on to the next thing.

RE: Hawaii Bowl
A trip to Hawaii can be expensive no doubt about it. 3/6 split is just what we need. Our kids and fans deserve desirable locations. Hawaii is as good as it gets. As for marketing goes that's the only bowl game of the day. I know it's Christmas Eve but we tap into the festivus market.

My point was not they didn't enjoy the free scenery. However, all I heard was laments because parents couldn't afford to go and they wanted to go beat Penn State, not have to play Nevada. I guess it depends on if your team had rather beat a good, name team or go sit on a beach during Christmas.

The Hawaii Bowl does seem to cover both feats of strength and airing of the grievances.
