SunBelt soccer
Heard in the last couple of days that Ga. Southern's men's soccer program is in limbo at this point. This year of course we will be in the SoCon like other sports. Next year if the SBC has no men's soccer I am not sure what conference we will play in.

I thought it was a done deal we would play men's soccer in the SoCon still but I am hearing that may not be the case.

So is there any chance the SBC will have a men's soccer home for us next year?

RE: SunBelt soccer
To add men's soccer most, if not all, of us would then have to add another women's sport to offset the scholarships.

I don't see it happening anytime soon.

What schools play men's soccer in the SBC. I know Ga. State, App. St. and us have it. Who else does?

The SoCon is keeping App for soccer and wrestling, why not GSU soccer?

I think we might all three be better off applying to CUSA

Since the Sun Belt Conference does not sponsor men's soccer, Georgia State fields its men's varsity soccer team as an independent

Well I was thinking C-USA or maybe we could get App and GaSo to gives us a letter of recommendation for the SoCon...but if they're kicking out GaSo...I guess not.

Looks like the MAC and MVC could add some teams without problems. They're the smallest soccer conferences that would be reasonable travel-wise.

The MAC had FAU in men's soccer until they went to C-USA. Georgia Southern couldn't possibly be any worse of an addition than they were. Maybe your athletic director should call up the MAC commissioner.

WKU dropped men's soccer in 2008 soon after we began our transition from FCS to FBS.

I really hope we keep Soccer because I think it will be a rising sport in the south east for the next few decades.

I don't think soccer will ever really make it in college. LAX is gaining so much faster. It is much more entertaining to watch. If anything makes it to a baseball level or maybe a little bit bigger, it will be LAX.

Was an incredibly disappointing thing to see, too.

Soccer will continue to grow in the region. The MLS is gaining in popularity and plan to add four more clubs by 2020, there's a high likelihood three of the four will be Atlanta, Miami and Orlando.

I live on the Alabama, Georgia stateline and I do not know of any high schools that play LAX where as almost every high school has a boys soccer team. I do not see where LAX is gaining any ground in my neck of the woods.

Lacrosse tends to be a more Northern sport in my experience. I'm not sure why he is saying Lacrosse is more popular than Soccer here. I do not know of an American professional lacrosse league, but I do not of a relatively popular Soccer league.

LAX is definitely growing, it's been in Atlanta high schools for like a decade and there actually is a major league lacrosse, but I would say it's where major league soccer was a decade or more ago.

Lacrosse might get farther in college, but it will never develop professionally.

Our new AD came from Kent St. I'm sure he has plenty of MAC connections if the SoCon is really not allowing us to stay for soccer
