Meet the Dukes practice
Interested to see what everyone thought today.

My impression was defense was dominant. Offense looked horrible as they struggled to get anything going. Birdsong looked rusty as expected and I saw receivers still dropping passes. Hard to run a more balanced playbook when your receivers are not doing their jobs. Backup QB was Schiele and I thought he did some good things. Shame Lafonte did not get any reps. They need to move him if he isn't gonna play QB. Lastly very happy to say we had no apparent injuries. Therefore we won today. Less than two weeks away ladies and gents, get excited for the return of football to Bridgeforth Stadium. Go Dukes!

Really hoping offense has something to add to the defense this year

RE: Meet the Dukes practice
Good news is that our offense is facing a good defense. Bad news is they aren't doing much against a good defense. I like the idea of an up-tempo offense, as long as the offense isn't a 3 and out. Hopefully now that Birdsong is healthy he'll have more time with the WR's and offense will improve.

Cliche, but they are for a reason- they are usually correct. D should be ahead of O. And especially with Ginja Ninja just getting back.

No biggee.

RE: Meet the Dukes practice
There's still two weeks until the opener, right? I find it hard to believe that this year's offense won't be good, if healthy. As Stephon Robertson pointed out, the key to this team is the play of Birdsong. Thought he said he threw three touches in a recent scrimmage. If you go unit by unit, the offense is solid, except perhaps at TE, which Matthews calls the weakest position on the team. Couple that talent with a revamped and excellent coaching staff and I expect big things. Behind the first team, however, potentially lies some concern, especially with a walk-on true freshman leading the second team. I'm surprised there hasn't been an in-depth article yet on Schiele, as he's one of the early surprises of camp, it would seem.
