MyBB Flashes heading for a week in the Bahamas
Basketball trip preview.

Quote:The Golden Flashes will wrap up the last of 10 practices today, then depart for the Bahamas on Sunday at 4 a.m. They will play four games against national teams from the Bahamas during their seven-day tour of the islands, with game one slated for Monday night against the Legend All Stars.

College teams can only take a foreign summer trip once every four years, so obviously third-year head coach Rob Senderoff and his troops are excited about the rare summer journey.

"It's nice that you're allowed to do this, and I think it'll be a great bonding experience for our kids," said Senderoff. "Hopefully it'll be a good time for our guys to have fun when they're not on the court, then hopefully we'll play well when we're on the court. I know our guys are looking forward to it."

Any other teams making out of country trips this pre-season?

UT men just finished up a 10 day trip to Greece. Was scheduled for 4 games, but 1 team cancelled on them. Won all 3 handily.

My church league team could have won a couple of those games. Still a nice trip. Bahamas would be nice as well, if a little muggy and warm this time of year. Does Kent have a player/s from the Bahamas or was there another reason it was chosen?

Derek Jackson discusses transferring from CMU and Bahamas trip.

Quote:Over this past year, I’ve probably learned as much as I can in a year. Not being part of a team, being away from school, and working out on my own helped me a lot with the mental side of the game. I have more motivation and confidence than ever and feel that I need to prove myself all over again.

Finally getting back in school and being around an actual team is everything I wanted. Kent State is a great fit for me. Our team is like a family. They welcomed me with open arms and I feel like I fit in immediately. One of my teammates always has me laughing and they’ve been good about showing me around campus and stuff.

They said you hogged the waffle iron, and they want their towels back.

BG to Cancun

6/12/2013 2:38:00 PM
Fort Collins, Colo. – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will face Wisconsin and St. Louis stateside before heading to Mexico to face Presbyterian in the 2013 Cancun Challenge, as announced today by tournament officials.

The Falcons will play at Wisconsin Thursday, Nov. 21 and then at St. Louis two days later. Bowling Green will then head south to face Presbyterian on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the all-inclusive Aventura Palace resort near Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The winner of the BGSU/Presbyterian game will face the winner of a contest between Oral Roberts and Georgia Southern on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and the losers of each contest will also square off that day.

The tournament features eight men's NCAA Division I college basketball teams and includes eight games played in the United States, and eight games played in Mexico. Old Dominion, Saint Louis, West Virginia and Wisconsin headline the host teams for the games played in the U.S. and are joined by Bowling Green State, Georgia Southern, Oral Roberts, and Presbyterian.

Once teams arrive in Mexico they are split into two divisions (Riviera and Mayan). A champion is crowned in both divisions. All four games of the Riviera Division will be nationally televised LIVE in HD from the Aventura Palace Convention Center on CBS Sports Network. The Mayan Division games will be webcast live on CBSsports.com, ULive.

The Cancun Challenge is regarded as one of the most unique preseason men's college basketball tournaments. Teams stay at the Aventura Palace and enjoy all the amenities the resort has to offer. A ballroom is converted into an arena, and fans who attend the event get an up-close perspective of their team while enjoying an all-inclusive setting. Previous champions include Vanderbilt (2008), Kentucky (2009), Missouri (2010), Illinois (2011) and Wichita State (2012).

The Cancun Challenge is owned and produced by Triple Crown Sports, which also organizes the Women's Cancun Challenge, and the Preseason and Postseason Women's NIT. Triple Crown is a leader in youth and college sports and manages more than 300 youth events across the country in baseball, basketball, softball and volleyball. Um, this isn't what's being discussed. We're talking about schools that are taking pre-season trips overseas, not in-season trips.
