Matchups....
...all about the matchups, and one of the most important, if not the most important is OL v DL....obviously.

When Florida is on offense, frankly, I think we got the edge here. Although not the greatest OL in the country, when healthy, they are pretty decent. While you aren't devoid of talent on the DL, I think UF has the edge.

It gets harder for me when Toledo has the ball. However, given our losses on the line at DT, coupled with your experienced line, I am giving the Rockets a slight edge here.

Supposedly we are developing a decent pash rush, and we are deep at corner, but the middle of our line took a hit with some departures to the NFL and to expand from the DL to the front 7, we are inexperienced at linebacker for the most part and have to replace both starting safeties.

Perhaps you can see where I am going here. I know what part of the UF defense I would test if I were Campbell.

RE: Matchups....
On special teams, I give the edge to Toledo. Our kick return and punt return teams are a total mystery right now, and we aren't the best at the moment on kick and punt coverage either. Obviously, that plays into your hands. Your kicker is good, and we are replacing ours and who that will be is also a total mystery. You have a proven commodity in the return game.

Our punter is good though...for what that is worth.

I agree with you thoughts on UT's OL vs. UF's DL. We have an OL or 2 that are rated highly, nationally, at their position. Hopefully our DL can keep UF in check enough so that our O can do some work. And hopefully your punter will be getting in a lot of work 03-wink.

On the pass rush front, we are glad to have Ronald Powell back at the buck position. We also are happy with the push we get from the ends, especially Fowler. We are wondering about the interior line. The good thing for Florida is we have better depth now, but a lot of that depth are youngins.

We will rotate a lot of bodies, and hope to stay fresh and wear your good OL down. Easy to say, not so easy to do.

Our OL is average at best by SEC standards, but it seems we will be improved over last year.

Thank God. 04-bow

RE: Matchups....
Your offense presents a great challenge for Florida as it can throw and run. Probably UF will come with a 3-3-5 package at base to feel you out. We do not want to get beat over the top early. The last thing we want to do is give you confidence early.

Our corners are good...very good...but then again Louisville torched us.....

I imagine we are more worried about your passing game than your running. You have to take something away, and we will let you have the dink and dunk stuff. Fluellen will get his yards, no doubt.

But, this is the key to our game. Can your OL block our DL? This is why I think you have a shot in this game. I think our Defense is going to be nasty, but not in September.

RE: Matchups....
If Toledo can be successful in the dink and dunk plan, I give the edge to Toledo in the heat expected in the swamp. Toledo will need to cash in on those drives to wear out the Gator defense. That is a tough task, because an unproven (but ranked #10) Gator team is deep. Toledo is similar in talent to the team that beat Penn State back in 2000 (I believe it was 2000), but the current wideouts and tight ends are more talented. I am really looking forward to this game. The other factor that no one is commenting on is the Zebra factor. Will the refs be SEC? Toledo got homered bad in Columbus a couple years back. Penalties were 14 - 2. Toledo lost the penalty battle that day.

The key to the game: Will Owens line up behind the center or the guard on the first play. In three games against tOSU, the first two blow-outs started with QBs Wallce then Opelt lining up behind the guard. LOL. Owens of course lined up behind the center in a game Toledo should have won, and was the better team. This UT team has the potential to be the best ever. IMHO.

I appreciate the commentary RR. If my daughter wasn't getting married in October, I would be there. I am still wondering if I can sneak away without being noticed. :)

Looking forward to it. Go Rockets!!

As far as the refs go, it doesn't matter. Florida is always a very highly penalized team, and that hasn't changed in about 20 years, regardless of coach. If they are SEC refs, that won't mean anything.

To give you an illustration, last year against Bowling Green, the Falcons had 3 penalties for 25 yards, while Florida was flagged 14 times for 106 yards. The refs do not like us, ok. Period. So on that issue, do not let your heart be troubled.

Congrats on the wedding, btw. October...game is in August...ok. I think you can sneak out. 04-cheers

RE: Matchups....
And in an interesting and very surprising development, Coach Muschamp talked about the pecking order at RB for Florida. As you know, our starter, Matt Jones, is out. Champ says it is Mack Brown, then Mark Herndon then Valdez Showers. No Kelvin Taylor, no Adam Lane. That means for our game we have as a starter a guy that that has for his career 40 attempts and a whopping 167 yards. The next guy is a walkon, and the third guy just got moved three practices ago from defense.

04-jawdrop

Seems our true freshmen have trouble hanging on to the ball and picking up blocking assignments.

Just a tidbit I thought I would throw out there for you.

that's good to know... because the big ten refs cheat... whenever a MAC team starts to win... out comes the flags on ever single play until they suck the life out of the MAC teams...

Florida fans can relate, but imagine having it be a home game and have the refs throw it for the visitors. It used to be that when FSU came to town, we had ACC refs, and when we went to Tallacrappy, there would be SEC refs(again would not matter).

In 2003, the nulls came to town and that game became known by Florida fans as "The Swindle in The Swamp". After that game, no ACC refs again, thank you. It was God awful.

Don't worry about the refs is all I am saying.

I know 2 D Gators I'd go right after and the Buck LB/2 DT's I'd steer clear of.
