Montgomery Bowl is a go?
Quote:@Messenger_Wes
City of Montgomery and ESPN have called a joint press conference for Monday at 2pm..... Hmmm, bowl game involving Sun Belt?

from Troy's beat writer. Probable bowl game at Cramton Bowl. I wonder who the Belt's opponent will be.

RE: Montgomery Bowl is a go?
I really don't think Montgomery is a city that anyone would want to go to for a bowl game.

RE: Montgomery Bowl is a go?
Well it's either C-USA or MAC. I don't think AAC would play the Belt in Montgomery.

I hope "other than C-USA", but I'd go if SOUTHERN MISS were there. Of course it's a locale that could easily be a one day event for me (about 2.5 hours from my house). And NO, nothing to see/do in Montgomery worth the effort of more than MAYBE a one nighter for fans of the teams.

Problem it's at a stadium that only seats 25k... Troy is 35mins south of Montgomery and have a major campus in Montgomery... We would sell the 25k out by ourselves. I'm not a fan of having this bowl.

They may not have a choice. Right now, they are too busy trying to pick up doo-doo balls left behind by the P-5 conferences bowl games.

Isn't that the same for MAC, Belt, and C-USA? Allow me to list the bowls that C-USA has officially announced....

Could be. But you were talking about the AAC and not the MAC, or CUSA.

Probably not...but it does sit in almost the geographic enter of CUSA. As a bottom bowl, it would at least be a convenient relatively short drive for a large number of CUSA schools.

and that is probably why it will be MAC-Sun Belt.

That would be my guess, but it would work better as a CUSA-Sunbelt game. The MAC doesn't travel well at all.

Probably the MAC, and I'm guessing the MAC would travel even less well if it's Montgomery, especially when we already have a bowl in Mobile. Very long drive for some of us. Think I'd rather spend the money and fly to Boise.

Selling out 25k seats at a bowl game will do more for the Belt than leaving 2/3 of a 72k seat stadium empty.

AACrap

Not interested...

AAC will end up with:

Military Bowl
Armed Forces Bowl
Aresco Miami Bowl
Birmingham Bowl
St. Pete Bowl
New Orleans Bowl

Montgomery Bowl should go CUSA v Sun Belt for simple geography...

I hope the MAC plays all our bowl games vs the Sun Belt and all in some random city in Alabama!! 4 Alabama-Sun Belt tie-ins at old run down stadiums in the same state would be the cat's meow!!

For that matter, it just about sit in the geographic center of the AAC. You got ECU to the East, Tulane, UCF, and USF in the South, Houston, Tulsa and SMU to the West.

Now the stadium in Montgomery is nice. It just got totally redone.
