RE: OT - MAC Band Rankings
Get it On won't be part of the pregame anymore (Thank God!). Start Wearing Purple will take over that spot (Thank God!)

Talk about more complicated drill - the opener this year has 31 pages of drill. I don't think there were 31 pages in a whole show when I was in undergrad. I hear they're running things slightly different this year so I guess we'll see what they have ready by the end of the week! And having stopped by the stadium last night, the sound was very impressive and that was only an hour into camp.

So happy Get It On is gone. They ran that song into the ground when they started doing it for not only pregame, but halftime and band alumni day... ugh.

When I marched we the first tune was generally between 10-15 pages. I thought they were doing at least double now what they used to... but 31 for an opener is quite a lot for a college band. Not only that but the moves are far more difficult. Major props to the drill writing- really like what they've been doing.

Any piece that is selected for Alumni Band gets run into the ground, well before Get It On it was You'll Never Walk Alone. That got old too.

Yeah they were. They won the very first title in 1978 and have never changed classification.

I know all of that but it wasn't used for pre-game until recently. Was mostly just a stand tune (which sometimes didn't even get played) or occasionally as the concert piece. I can't remember if we did the gyrations they do today on it, but even if we did it's not nearly as noticeable as doing it for pre-grame each week.

Happy to hear that. Like others have said it's been completely beat to death in recent years. It's still a fun tune and once a game or so during a timeout would be fine, though.

The moves have been there since before 2002 although maybe not as boisterous. It wasn't until it replaced Proud Mary as Pre-game/encore that it was prominent. Most of the time it was "hidden" in the stands so nobody really noticed.
