Torian doesn't have an offer from FSU. I doubt Bowers has any effect on his recruitment.

Must have been a damn good visit at FSU, we have been on this kid forever and everyone was predicting him to Memphis. So in 14-15 we should still have Shaq, Nichols, and Woodson. Also King and Iverson could play a few minutes at the 4 if asked. We recruiting any other bigs? I hope we don't offer some 3 star to just take up space. The 15 and 16 recruiting classes should be big for us.

No big deal. There wasn't ever a real offer from Memphis anyway. Was he really Memphis good? Obviously FSU had to be dirty, no way a kid would take Hamilton over Pastner.

Yes he was Memphis good.
We do have Shaq, Nichols and Woodson so its not the end of the world.
But it does suck.

People still suggesting landing a recruit like Alexander is "beyond" us are fools imo.
Josh has proven he can land anyone from anywere in the country.
Is it tough? Of course.
But the idea that we are "out of our leauge" recruiting him is just an ignorant assumtion at this point.
Josh Pastner is one of the 5 best recruiters in the nation.

Who are the best non-Memphis kids Memphis has gotten?
Will Barton, (top 15) that was Cyp's get, plus it was a package with AB that others weren't willing to make, correct?
Shaq? Top 35. Kuran? Damien and Pookie.
Nothing near the level Alexander is. So, yeah it would be a HUGE surprise, but one I would enjoy.

Personal opinion on Bowers. I was surprised that we were all in on him. Yes he would have been a solid pick up but I like who we have. We aren't desperate for big guys like we were for guards before pookie and McGee. That was desperate. There will be bigger, younger big guys in the up coming months. We're in good shape.

You just made my case for me.
Pastner has been a head coach for 4 years and he has already landed Barton, Kuran, Shaq, Pookie, Magee, Woodson, Kendrick.
I'd say no one is out of his reach.
Were already on his final list. That alone makes the argument that we "can't" land him false.

I'd say Derrick Rose was a decent pick up.. Why not set your sights high?? Just have a backup plan.

Plus Bowers was probably worried about PT with every big coming back.

Point being, Alexander is top 5. JP hasn't gotten close to snagging a top 5 guy (Shaq being in the 30's and four of the above 70-100+). Cyp was deep on Barton before JP even hired him and the package deal was helpful.
Alexander isn't a package and I am not sure if Gardner has any sort of pre-existing relationship with Cliff.
If you are a real "sky is falling" guy you note that Memphis missed on two top 40 locals already this year and are only bringing in 70's to replace. Add to that losing out to FSU on a kid they made a top priority isn't great.

I thought Austin Nichols was:
1. Ranked very high
2. A "lock" to go somewhere besides Memphis
No credit to Josh on this one?

If you read above, the discussion focused on pulling in highly rated non-Memphis kids.
Obviously, that's why JJ, AT, NK, AN amongs others weren't referenced. Whether fair or unfair, it's assumed that Memphis should be getting a majority of those kids.

RE: Any updates on 2014 top ranked JUCO Cinmeon Bowers?
Alexander is unlike any prospects outside of Memphis that Josh has landed before. He doesn't have any of the "stipulations" attached to him like Barton or Kendrick had. No package deals, no behavioral issues. He's almost guaranteed to come in and be an impact player immediately. Barton turned out great, but even he didn't really come into his own until his Sophomore season.
Up til now, Pastner has never landed a recruit on the same tier as Alexander.
