IMdB lists it as SWT but it was filmed in 2004 and the name had changed by then. Get it right folks.

The idea that a lawsuit would ever even be mentioned is just flat out, beyond hilarious. On what grounds would the school sue?

If the fact that the film is a work of fiction is not enough, if you really want to dive into it, the writers could easily say that Sandler's character played college football in the 80's and Appalachian State wasn't very good then and in reality, this movie came out in 2005, which means it was written well before the three championships and well before the victory at the Big House.

This is a movie that not a ton of people saw and even fewer people liked, about the most noteworthy thing on the resume of the two screenwriters was actually the original Longest Yard.

Anyone who even bats an eyelash at this is overreacting.

I agree with your overall comment completely. It's FICTION and anybody who gets upset about it is just being too sensitive. Learn how to take a joke! For the record though, App actually was a very solid team in the 80's with the exception of a couple of years very early. We were D1 before the creation of 1-AA and until the SoCon moved down in 82. In the 80's, we were solid...not necessarily elite but we had our moments. During that time we gave Mack Brown (now at Texas) his first head coaching job, and Sparky Woods was our coach after that (he left to become head coach at South Carolina). Jerry Moore became our head coach in 1989 and the rest is history...ONE losing season since then.

Also...Sandler character played at Florida State, which is one FBS program that has never played App. It's fiction. It was a dig at the App alum who was doing the sports choreography (several other big movie credits on his resume).

Understand people watching that App State reference got quite a laugh after we beat Michigan.

I would hope that most on this forum have outgrown AS's style of comedy.

Forgot part about Reynolds being in remake. Even so, I assume you concur that the original was much better.

1970's vintage Burt Reynolds -vs- Adam Sandler ....Reynolds, no comparison.

Rather hard to believe Sadler as any kind of athlete, especially an elite QB from a program like Florida State. As for the App State quote, any publicity is good publicity IMO unless it's on a police blotter.

This is another case of a movie that required no re-make.
