I'm gonna try harder this year, coach. It's those damn late Friday nights that get me everytime.

Hell yes I am. I rely on your food to routinely save me during gamedays... without it I might not remember the game.

Also when is Spanky doing cheeseteaks this year, they were soooo good.

RE: Gameday Ritual
You guys crack me up. It's been awhile since I've had a full H'burg weekend, but I remember straddling Saturday's buzz with Friday's hangover and tailgating hard.

I only have a few traditions, but they are always the same no matter the game time. We live in Northern Virginia and we always stop at the Sheetz in Woodstock for cold Busch 24 oz. camo cans with blaze orange lettering, because that Sheetz is the only place on the way that sells them. Those become our first beer of the day when we arrive at P Lot. The 2nd tradition is a walk around the Quad, which we do at every game, and always with a solo cup in hand.

I spent an hour or so Friday night looking through the JMU tailgaters cookbook to see what new things I might try for this year. Gets you right back in the proper mindset.

RE: Gameday Ritual
Friday
6:00pm - Porch beers with Deez as we welcome the onslaught of weekend warriors.
8:30pm - Everyone has arrived except Cent. Complain over the phone when he says he's still on I-66.
9:45pm - Finally head downtown.
9:53pm - BJ's bouncer denies Cent entrance because he's being too loud. Coincidentally the most sober at this point. Decide to go to Ruby's.
9:54pm - Joke about going to Dave's. (Even funnier now that's its closed.)
11:30pm - "Hey we should probably head back after this beer."

Saturday
1:30am - "Hey you guys have to leave after that beer."
2:00am - Lie down for a short four-hour nap.
4:15am - Wake up and throw a pillow at Dirty sawing logs.
4:17am - Turn on white noise YouTube clip that I forgot to put on earlier.
6:30am - Roll over to the smell of crock pot meatballs.
6:30-7:30am - Trick myself into thinking I'm actually going back to sleep.
7:35am - Fight song on volume notch 11.
8:00-9:00am - Begin regretting lending out my P-Lot pass to a friend with a bigger car as I wait for them to load up stuff.
9:15am - Finally load up car only to realize they didn't factor in room for me.
9:20am - Drive my car and park in R2 Lot.
9:22am - Starbucks.
9:30am - Get ridiculed by the eight people in P-Lot before me.
10:30am - Take a break from winning so many games of cornhole with Dirty.
10:55am - Pull the "Ask a stranger: You rootin' 'fer Dukes bud?" block from PowerTower.
11:25am - Third trip to the purple and gold port-o-john.
11:45am - Northern Virginia tailgaters finally arrive. Exchange pleasantries.
High Noon - "Shotgun hourrrr!"
12:17pm - Take picture of Cent passed out in a chair.
12:30pm - Start to get hungry. Laugh when you realize the hospitality tent doesn't even open for another three hours.
1:12pm - Somehow my phone is already dead.
1:45pm - First car arrives on Godwin Field. P-Lot already half full.
2:00pm - "Crap. Did I remember my tickets?"
2:03pm - "Wait. Why am I looking in this glove compartment?"
2:15pm - Toss an errant football back to a stranger. Miss target by 15 yards. "Sorry!"
3:00pm - "Whoa. When did all these people get here?"
3:15pm - Dance to Gogol.
3:30pm - "Shotgun hourrrr!" "Guys let's wait until we get a trucker to honk his horn."
3:34pm - "ERR ERRRRRRRRRR!" Krrrsh, scrrrrsh, glugglugglug. *burp*
4:30pm - Almost forget to eat. Hustle to the hospitality tent.
5:00-5:30pm - La la la.
5:35pm - #StartWearingPurple
6:00-9:00pm - Water, coffee, and puzzling thoughts as to how FOATI hasn't been kicked out yet.
9:15-??? - Regrets.

RE: Gameday Ritual
Oh, and just a thought for some folks. I do this with a tailgate group(we only know each other from the tailgate) at Fedex. You simply bring foods for the tailgate that are the characteristic foods of the team you are playing. This may be easier at the NFL level, but I see no reason it could not be adjusted. For example, if we are playing Filthadelphia, it is cheesesteaks and such. New Orleans, Jumbalaya and Frogmoor stew.

It would be tougher because their is not so much distinct regionalism in smaller college towns, but you could always borrow from the next biggest cities. For Delaware, blue plate diner food. Towson(borrow from Baltimore) do crab. Maine, rock the lobster and moose. Richmond... not sure, maybe Venison from the outlying areas?

What would work for each of our visiting teams to Bridgeforth this year?

I didn't golf nearly enough while at JMU. I just got back into it pretty regularly. What are some good courses locally to play if I want to get in a quick 18 Sunday after a game? I played a few rounds over at Lakeside or Lakeview or whatever it's called but never got beyond that.

Is this an actual publication, or something informal passed around by the board members? I've been thinking we needed more variety from last year's burgers-and-dogs menu.

Also, anyone have any tailgate/game buildup tunes they always listen to?

Believe it was an actual publication someone from the boards or local DC chapter put together to raise money a year or two back. Never got a copy, that not to say don't buy one if you have the chance; but you're only limited by time and equipment for tailgate grub.

We typically do one burger/dog game for simplicity's sake. We always close with venison chili for the final reg. season home game. Other games are a fair game for kabobs, ribs, wings, shrimp, etc. Planning to do grilled pizza this year. Beyond brisket or shoulders we usually try to do all the cooking on site.

When I reach Woodstock on the drive down ( or get to within a half hour at an away game) I have a medley that I play to get fired up. Basically the themes from Rudy, Hoosiers, Rocky, Friday Night Lights( movie ) and closes with Al Michaels countdown from the "Do you believe in Miracles" game. I only play these when we're going up against a I-A or it's a game I feel we could potentially lose. Yeah, kinda hokey but it does the job.

the song from FNL movie - "New Noise" by Refused, great song. great album.

I also have a weird football ritual attachment to TI's song "whatever you like" as it was very popular during the 2008 season and I am sure my listening to that song helped us win the game vs Richmond that year 04-rock

Because that song (& most of the album) is awesome. Ludacris on Top of the World is a favorite track.

what are you looking to add?

unless you are looking to drop $1,000+ (just how well is Sam's doing?) on a honda generator that would be somewhat quiet, for the sake of your wallet and noise i'd go with 2 deep cycle marine batteries with an inverter. Looking at maybe $300 all-in including the battery charger

For whatever reason I recall JJ and Hoboken as having a pretty serious rig. Dish, TV, laptop, speakers etc. Haven't seen Hobo around here I don't think unless it's a new name, but JJ's here. Not sure what thye use to power all that stuff. That'd be a good resource.

Hoboken's out in Cali (I think...) & he used to do the marine battery setup for his electronics. Just remember to charge them each time!
