RE: OT: Basketball Coaching Carousel
You want to see implosion, Georgia Tech just hired Josh Pastner. GT fans cannot be happy. Everyone at Memphis wanted to get rid of him, but couldn't because of a $10 million buyout. Now,

How is it that Georgia Tech screws up every single basketball coaching decision since the Paul Hewitt lifetime contract? I mean seriously, I don't usually think that I know more about these things than ADs, but sometimes you just have to wonder if these guys really know what is going on at all.

Don't forget, we beat VCU in the conference tournament two years in a row and beat them in the regular season and tournament the year they went to the final four. They've managed to capitalize on that lucky run in a way GMU did not, but they are still who they are. I absolutely compare the Monarchs and the Rams. Do you think UNC doesn't compare themselves to Duke? This is a rivalry, a bitter, in-state rivalry. If our team can't compete with the Rams consistently, then everyone needs to get the axe. Not saying we're there though. I expect to beat VCU this season. Im not sold on their new coach yet either. We'll see. But I see the gap between the two teams closing, not widening soon. If we get into the AAC it will close even faster because we won't have to win the whole thing to get to the tournament, which has to be attractive to recruits.

I think VCU is ahead of us in terms of program strength at the moment, but also keep in mind the A10 is as high as VCU will ever get if they never add football (which I imagine they won't). Big East only takes in private schools, and all the other P5 programs require football I believe. So while VCU is at its highest point it can possible be, we still have plenty of growth and potential ahead of us. I'm hoping AAC is our next destination, but longgggg term, in the craziest of universes we could go even higher as long as our program keeps growing.

I'm afraid all of us will be dead before we get beyond the AAC or A10, but as long as Temple, Navy, ECU and UMass are in there with us, I'll be satisfied. Hopefully Charlotte and Marshall too.

One of our women's assistant coaches, Trina Patterson, was named the head coach at UNC-Greensboro this afternoon.
