EA's College Football game takes another hit
http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...tball-game

The SEC will no longer allow EA Sports to use its trademarks in its college football video game. It will be up to each individual school whether or not to allow EA to use their own trademarks, but this is another step towards there not being a college football video game in the future.

In the future, EA Sports will simply refer to the conference as the $EC.

I used to buy NCAA Football, but after making big strides in gameplay a few years ago they have really just been making minor adjustments that haven't improved the game as a whole. The CPU defense is usually psychic, you can't adjust bowl game affiliations, the glitches can get ridiculous, team ratings are usually inaccurate, and a lot of the logic in recruiting ratings don't make any sense (Miami's academics are C+ for example) Count me out on NCAA Football at least until the next generation of consoles come out.

I agree. I have gotten frustrated with the lack of AI placed into the background...specifically a full stadium and canned commentary not fitting a 45-0 score in the 4th quarter. I also thought they could have created more than 6 avatars for the crowd.

That being said, I'm going to miss the game.

Curious -- did you buy this year's title?

RE: EA's College Football game takes another hit
Been waiting for the NCAA College Football game by EA that allows me to use four divisions within a conference, have a conference tournament and play in a 8 team National Tournament.

Guess that isn't ever going to happen now. 07-coffee3

I actually believe this year's title -- despite the unnecessary overhaul to the Dynasty Recruiting interface -- is the best entry in at least 5 years. The game play is solid through and though, EA has done a great job with the animations, especially the newer ones, and if it appears this is the last title, they went out in style.

RE: EA's College Football game takes another hit
To John: Ohio, although the U has some pretty good academics as well. I guess if they're weighing grad schools heavily into the ranking then I can see us being bumped down some, though I'm probably thinking about this too much when it's likely just ignorance that's the cause.

To LSUtah: The opposite problem is present as well. I had a dynasty with Miami in which we went to a bowl game two years straight, only lost two or three home games in that span, won my first two games on the road the following season, was ranked 24th, and even then we still didn't sell out Yager Stadium (capacity about 24,000) when playing a ranked rival, Cincinnati. Maybe the folks at EA Sports just hate the MAC.

To ecuacc4ever: No, I didn't, although I guess it's good if they improved this year's version. However, even if they really did make some great changes this year, I probably would've wanted to wait for X-Box One or PS4 until I get a new game. If NCAA Football dies, I might stop by GameStop and get a used copy of this year's version just so I have the last version available.

The first few EA college football games didn't use team trademarks or player likenesses. I don't see why they can't go back.

RE: EA's College Football game takes another hit
The NCAA Football series has been great but has had its' fair share of problems. The main problem is that there is literally no middle ground between All-American and Heisman difficulty. One is far too easy and one is far too difficult. Also, each year a play type or two just overpowers the game. This year, the read option is just unstoppable and I have yet to find a defense that can adequately stop it or even slow it down. The only chance you have is if the person you play makes the wrong read, which is hard to do on a simple read option. Also, Online Dynasty has so much potential but it is just so broken and buggy it isn't even worth all of the stress

It's not a big deal or anything that they gave us a C+ or that you agree with them, I'm just trying to defend my school.

I can concur that before getting heavily involved in discussions here I had no clue about the quality of Miami University in Ohio.

It definitely deserves higher than a C+ in that game.

The Bearcats don't look at them as a rival due to their perceived equivalence in football and basketball, that is for sure. Cincinnati loves being associated with Miami due to academics. That is the only reason I can surmise.

Add B1G and PAC-12 to the list of those dropping licensing.

RE: EA's College Football game takes another hit
UPDATED 3:31 p.m. ET: As it turns out, the Big Ten’s internal discussions resulted in the same policy as the SEC’s. In an update to their previous report, ESPN confirmed that the Big Ten will no longer license its trademark to the EA Sports NCAA football video game.

UPDATED 3:36 p.m. ET: Shortly after the previous update was posted, CFT received confirmation that the Pac-12 has followed the lead of the other two conferences and will not renew its license with EA Sports. Individual schools, however, will be permitted to renew its license with the company, although most if not all are expected to decline that option.

Well I think location has been the biggest factor in our rivalry. We've been playing since 1888, having a local opponent saved each school from a long road trip back then and the rival status naturally developed. As time passed Miami football and UC basketball rose to national prominence and both stayed in DI, giving neither school much of a reason to stop playing each other until our basketball fell off a cliff the last decade. Now that our football has been sinking (save for 2010), it's hurting our leverage to keep the status quo. But like I said, we're locked up to play H-H through 2020, so it'll take a big buyout for us to move our home games to PBS, all games to Nippert, or end the series completely.

I agree with the other comments saying that our academics aren't exactly a big name around the US. We fly under the radar because we're a smaller public school, while other Public Ivys like Michigan/Virginia/Cal are larger and have more resources due to their flagship status. Still, I like to think we hold our own nationally.

RE: EA's College Football game takes another hit
again im not trying to bash miami, and im starting to think that i should drop this........

but overall they are ranked 89th by us news and unranked in the ARWU. i know you can look at one stat or one program and make a case for miami being under rated academically but the truth of the matter is is that michigan, texas, usc, psu etc. didnt get to where they were by looking at one or two things, they looked at the overall picture. and thats what people look at when they think of good academic schools. not one or two things, but the bg picture.

miami's academic rankings + limited name brand recognition and i think the devs got it right with their C+ grade
