RE: Semi-OT Cantrell Ave to become MLK Way
I admittedly just scrolled quickly through the 17 pages, but I'm surprised nobody has yet brought up the Chris Rock joke yet:

"You know what's sad? Martin Luther King stood for non violence. And I don't care where you are in America, if you're on Martin Luther King Boulevard, there's some violence going down... If a friend calls you on the telephone and says they're lost on Martin Luther King Boulevard and they want to know what they should do, the best response is ‘Run!'"

I think Harrisonburg will have the safest MLK-named road in America...

Well, they got their 1st body: From the DNR today

"HARRISONBURG — The Harrisonburg Police Department is working to determine the identity of a man whose body was found this morning on railroad tracks that run alongside Martin Luther King Jr. Way near Reservoir Street.

Lt. Kurt Boshart of the HPD said the body was being taken to the state medical examiner’s district office in Roanoke for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, and until that is determined the case is being investigated as a homicide. He gave no indication whether foul play is suspected.

Police were working to confirm the man’s identity so relatives could be notified, he said.

The body was found by a passer-by who reported it at 8:39 a.m., according to city spokeswoman Mary-Hope Vass.

The Harrisonburg Rescue Squad arrived, quickly determined that the man was dead and placed a white sheet over his body, Boshart said. Police cordoned off the area and waited for the medical examiner to arrive before beginning any investigation of the death scene.

The death scene is in the 700 block of MLK Jr. Way, between Reservoir Street and Mount View Drive, on the Norfolk Southern Corp. railroad tracks. The body was found lying on the track just south of the building that houses EmergiCare of Harrisonburg, Shenandoah Psychological Services, Vision Publishers and Woelfel Research Inc..........."

Now just need to get the hookers, pimps, and drug dealers and you'll have an appropriate MLK Street..

i would wager that most of us would have lost the bet of death by suicide on train tracks as the first fatality on MLK Way in Harrisonburg.
