RE: syracuse played 12 BCS teams last year
USC and UCLA last year did it
Stanford played 13 last year
Miami would have played 13 if they didn't opt out of the post season
I didn't check every team. There are probably more.

So? You asked if it had ever been done. It's been done a lot. I guess if you add enough stipulations you can award Syracuse a trophy for it.

I don't believe ND or USC have ever played an FCS school. Could be wrong.

But good on Cuse for last year. Must be tough to get FCS programs to visit southern Ontario 03-wink

It was a one year thing for Syracuse. Go back a year and they only had 9 while there are teams that have more than 9 conference games.

syracuse has 10 on the schedule this year.

but i sure give usc & ucla credit for manning up.

usc has either 11 or 12 each year. (they go 12 for 12 about every other year)

ucla has either 10 or 11 (they go 11 for 12 about every other year

I'm assuming that the OP was including WVU in the Pinstripe Bowl, so 12 BCS plus Stony Brook.

I think the scheduling philosphy of playing 2 or 3 BCS AQ schools OOC is intended to keep our SOS up, given that the Big East had not been as deep as some of the other BCS AQ's. Now that we've moved to the ACC, I'll be surprised if we schedule more than 2 P5 opponents OOC. I might prefer going to a 9 game conference schedule and playing just one P5 opponent OOC.

Wouldn't that be a pretty long list in that case? Basically it covers everyone who made a bowl and only played one FCS team.

When I was looking around at a few it seems that there are a ton of schools playing 11 BCS teams.

When did Stony Brook count as a BCS team 03-shhhh

If you are asking have any teams played 2 out of 3, 3 out of 4, or 4 out of 5 OOC games vs. BCS teams, yes it's been done a lot.

USC has actually played several years where every team on their schedule was a BCS team. In addition they never play 1AA schools, and essentially play the likes of Hawaii or San Jose State in place of one:

USC (10-2)
2011/09/03 USC 19 - Minnesota 17

UCLA also utilizes the practice of not playing 1AA schools, so while they never play ALL BCS teams OOC like USC does, they often play all but one, with that one being a Fresno State type.

By "BCS" - do you mean AQ schools (because that would only be a few schools each year) or do you mean all FBS schools (because all FBS schools are technically BCS since the last re-organization). The first one is a rather short list (that NotreDame would never be on because of the Navy game) - the second one is a fairly long list each year.

i thought the norm was BCS/AQ schools the rest were simply referred to as FBS schools

Northwestern played 12 last year, including Syracuse. They were scheduled to play 11 this year before Vanderbilt chickened out.

Great for Syracuse. Is the Football team trying to make up for the Basketball team's joke OOC schedule?

Trying to make Syracuse look unique and like they accomplished something. 03-lmfao My goodness I can't wait until this season starts and Syracuse starts losing again. Look at their schedule

Penn State - Definite Loss
Northwestern - Likely loss
Wagner - Oh lookie here a FCS team
Tulane - Win
Clemson - Definite Loss
NC State - Win
Georgia Tech - Loss
Wake Forest - Win
Florida State - Loss
Pitt - Toss up but I'm going with Pitt because they have the week off and you guys will be coming from the FSU game.
Boston College - Win

You guys better pray to God you actually beat Wake Forest and Boston College or next year is going to be a disaster.
