Detroit Lions and "Kickalicious" Havard Rugland
The Detroit Lions have two kickers competing for the starting job this preseason: the veteran David Akers and the rookie Norwegian Havard Rugland. Rugland, of "Kickalicious" YouTube fame, displayed his kicking talents on the site and eventually drew the attention of several NFL scouts. Among the NFL teams interested, the Lions are the only team that has shown continued interest in his talents. He was invited to the team's training camp this year. During Detroit's 26-17 preseason win over the New York Jets, Rugland took part in a few kickoffs and completed two long field goals. (49 yds & 50 yds)

Will the "Norwegian sensation" be able to maintain momentum on his meteoric rise? Will the veteran Akers hold onto the starting spot regardless? Is this all just a publicity stunt for the Detroit Lions? Discuss your opinions.

Here's some context:

Pretty sure it is not a publicity stunt. The dude hit both of his FGs from 50 yards and he didn't really hit either of them square. Akers was kind of a head case last year. I wouldn't count Kickalicious out. Plus he is quite a bit younger than Akers.

As a Lions fan, I'm rooting for the Norwegian. He's potentially got an entire career ahead of him. Akers can still kick, but his productive NFL years are coming to a close in my opinion. Rugland has a lot more upside, and the extra publicity for the team is a plus too.

You really didn't need to say anything more. I feel bad for you. If you are under 40, you probably can't even remember a decent season, let alone a good one. Bring back Wayne Fontes.....

Became a fan because I liked underdogs, stayed a fan because I like the city, and I tune into the beautiful disaster annually because I like drinking. 03-lmfao
