This kid is making an impact as a preferred walk-on QB with the Dukes. Dukes picked up another walk-on, who had prepped up at Connecticut, but is from California -- DNR wrote an article about him and I believe Mike O'Cain recruited him. In any event, Matthews mentioned the Tabb product prominently yesterday at media day (unless I'm mixing up my walk-on QBs). There may be a third walk-on at that position, if I'm not mistaken. Ulrick Edmonds recruited Schiele, by the way.

RE: Dan Schiele
Lukas O'Connor is the CA kid from Culver City. Alex Girvan is another freshman QB and I'm assuming he's the third walk-on freshman QB. Schiele is not even listed on JMU's roster at the moment.

I would imagine the roster hasn't been updated completely as far as walkons go. It looks like just the scholly fr are listed, + 2 of the walkon QBs, and maybe 1-2 other walkons.

Quick scan of JMU's roster I only count 7 true fr listed with assigned #s, + another 12 at the bottom. I'm sure JMU is bringing in more than 19 freshman. JMU signed 16 on signing day alone, and with the walkons, I imagine would be bringing in around 30 or so.

RE: Dan Schiele
Copy, paste & update of a post I made back in June:

To sum up the QBs who've been brought in since 2010:

1. 2009: Kaveon Seaton: redshirt season at QB, moved to WR in 2010, left 2011. Would be a rSr if still on team.

2. 2010 signee Henry Hunter, left after less than 1 season. Would be a rJr if still on team.

3. 2010 signee Jace Edwards, started 5 games 2011 when JT suspended. Left 2012. Would be a rJr if still on team.

4. 2011 rFr transfer Billy Cosh from KSU. Left after 2011 season. Would be a rJr if still on team.

5. 2011 walkon Max Spees. Left after 2012 season. Would be an rSo if still on team.

6. 2012 signee Ian Fisher. Currently an rFr. Moved to TE.

7. 2012 signee Taylor Reynolds. Currently an rFr. Moved to CB. Looks like may be starting.

8. 2012 transfer Lafonte Thourogood. Currently a rSo & perennially injured.

9. 2012 signee Michael Birdsong. True Soph & current starting QB.

10. 2013 walkon Lukas O'Connor. Assume will redhshirt.

11. 2013 walkon Alex Girvan. Assume will redhshirt.

12. 2013 walkon Dan Schiele. Assume will redhshirt.

Only the last 5 still on team (and 3 just got to JMU) and still at QB.

I just hope O'Cain can coach the QBs to actually read a defense a lot better than Durden or Mickey could. They had a midget league approach. Thing is, based on his development of QBs at Tech, I have no reason to think that will be the case. Most of them went backward.

Well, Durden seemed to be able to coach Rascatti to read defenses just fine. Just couldn't make it happen with Dudzik or JT.

Will be interesting to see how Durden does at UTC, who was picked to finish 3rd in the So-Con, behind ineligible ASU and GSU.

RE: Dan Schiele
There was another guy at the spring game who took some QB snaps during the drills. Never heard of him before and nothing since. I don't believe he is on the roster. Certainly not there as a QB.

Quentin Hunter also took a lot of snaps as QB in the spring but I believe he's back at WR full time now. I think they just did that due to injuries at the time (and he had experience at the position in HS).

Matthews said in a recent video that Schiele will not redshirt this year. He's competing with Lafonte for the back-up QB position.

All he has to do is wait for LT to pull a Hammy... should take a day or 2.

IMO, it's subterfuge. MM is trying to light a fire under LT. He also stated that LT did not come into camp in great shape. We could take from the comments that he will not be a rs, but that was not specifically stated. I am not saying that the walk on is not doing well, but I think it was meant to be motivation. Again, just my opinion.

According to Stoss, Schiele took reps w/ the 1st team today. Here are the tweets:

Lafonte Thourogood did not practice today because, Mickey said, of a sore shoulder. Dan Schiele took reps with the 1st team.

It's not clear how serious LT's shoulder is. Mickey said it was a sore muscle and not anything to do with ligaments or labrums.

How is Brandon Ravenel looking at wide receiver? Any reports on him?

LT's new nickname.... Mr. Glass.

Semenov thinks LT is getting hurt too much.

This is a great question...anyone have any insight? Based on the hype coming in, I was thinking he might get some time on the field this year. But at the same time we have a ton of WRs. DeAndre Smith, Daniel Brown, Quentin Hunter, Andre Coble, Ryan Dixon, Arlandis Harvey, Anthony Rose (hoping he has a big year, it would be about time), and Marquis Woodyard. That's a lot of players with experience in front of him, so I guess he'd have to be really impressive to surpass that much talent.

Ha! I can hear Semenov saying now to LT (in the voice of Ivan Drago, the Russian boxer in Rocky IV) "I vill break you"

How can a kid blessed with LT's body (6'2" 235#) and athletic skills be so fragile? His muscles are pulling muscles?

He's a smart kid & a team-first player. He's not huge though & that has me thinking he'll get redshirted. With all the upperclassmen at WR on the roster, I would be surprised if he played this year. Looking forward to seeing him develop through the program & become the impact player.
