Is this true? Lowney, Morrell, and Born have a shot?

if they even remotely have a shot they'd be stupid to play basketball IMO. unless of course they 1) really like basketball and want to scratch that itch - it would be a unique opportunity thats for sure; 2) they think they could showcase their athleticism in a different way(like that dude from GMUs FF team that got a tryout for the Giants) thinking it would help their stock.

Really? Are you guys serious? An offensive lineman on the basketball court would make Janko look like a world class athlete. If we were talking about a defensive end or tight end then maybe....but offensive linemen...really?

David Born got embarrassed a couple times against ECU (specifically one play where Heinicke got sacked and then fumbled). He's got to start playing better if he has aspirations to play in the NFL.

You know it's going to be a long season when you start hoping for walk-ons.

RE: Did we forget about the MBB roster?
We have serval good BB players on the football team. Daquin Moore 6-3, played with Jorden Baker and started on Hampton's state champinionship team. Think he started more than Baker. Saw him play he's not bad at all.

6-5 Andrew Everett played BB at Collins Hill HS (Taylor's HS). The team was 22-7, rated 7th in the state. He played forward and center on a 7A HS team in Ga, he could provide some help.

Others that played HS Bball: 6-4 Keshawn Henderson, 6-4 Gerard Shillow, and 6-3 Marquel Thomas from Bayside HS.

Many B1G schools use the football players as walkon for the MBB team. Mich St always has a few, Tom Izzo wore us down with three FB WOs during the NCAAs a few years back.

Ed Miller:
Those numbers could soon grow. Jones said the team will likely conduct walk-on tryouts later this month, in hopes of picking up a practice player or two. NCAA rules don't allow them to be held prior to Sept. 15.

Until then, coaches are working on skill development with small groups of players - no more than four at a time, per NCAA regs. Players are also lifting weights and working on conditioning.

The staff is also gearing up for the recruiting period that begins Sept. 9 and runs through Nov. 10. Four straight football weekends offer plenty of chances to get recruits on campus.

Solid addition. We need competition at the 4 spot as bodies in general.

All I can find is a guy who averaged 4 ppg and 7 rpg in community college. I realize that beggers can't be choosers but keeping Ekene would have been a better move. Or am I looking at the wrong guy?

Can't evaluate this kid, but definitely disagree with keeping Ekene. It was a good move in the long run to cut ties...for both parties.

What can we expect at this point? I say make attempts to stop the bleeding, and push for 2014-2015.

This sounds like Nayquann Mitchell all over again ... except Nayquann averaged 12 ppg and 9 rpg coming out of Community College. Granted numbers don't tell us everything, but still.

RE: Did we forget about the MBB roster?
Doing some research, he sounds like a guy who hangs his hat on defense and rebounding. He's a bandaid for the next two years and doesn't handicap scholarships going forward. Also note he was hurt the second half of last year and there is a huge difference from his #s from the beginning of the season to the end.

If the kid can stay eligible, help the APR and provide good rebounding/defense then this is a good sign as a stop-gap. If it turns into a Nayquann Mitchell situation then it can be a disaster.

Other transfers ODU can add for next year include Tobe Okafor (holds offers from Kansas State, ODU, others) and Alassane Kah (LOI with WKU, NCAA ruled him ineligible and he couldn't enroll at ODU)
