Unless one of the Georgia schools make that bowl every year, I fear Atlanta would always treat us as 2nd class citizens.

Charleston could get behind a bowl game a lot easier.

Agreed 100 percent. The Heart of Dallas Bowl does nothing here. Only the Cotton really does.

The SBC and MAC can not compete in a major league city, it just it is that way. However, big time football in a city that doesn't currently have big time football, it will gain some traction from the locals. Just like in Mobile with the GoDaddy.com bowl.

I think Little Rock, Montgomery, Charleston would all support the game. In ATL we won't even get mentioned.

This. Especially if GSU or App make it. We are known here and have lots of alumni nearby. Charleston would support a bowl game. The biggest hurdle is the stadium.

That is the hold up, great city, horrible stadium situation. I've always been against bowl games being hosted by on campus stadiums. I have a real problem with on campus FCS stadiums hosting bowl games.

With time on my hands this afternoon... Bowl Games by State

Florida: Orange, Gator, Cap One, Outback, Beef O Brady's, Russell Athletics
Texas: Cotton, Alamo, Meineke, Sun, Armed Forces, Heart Of Dallas
California: Rose, Holiday, Kraft Fight Hunger, Poinsettia
Louisiana: Sugar, New Orleans, Independence
Arizona: Fiesta, Buffalo Wild Wings
Alabama: Go Daddy, Compass
Georgia: Chick-Fil-A
Tenn: Liberty, Music City
Hawaii: Hawaii
Idaho: Idaho Potato
Michigan: Little Caesar
Nevada: MACCO
New Mexico: New Mexico
New York: Pinstripe
North Carolina: Belk
Washington DC: Military

South Carolina needs a bowl game, but for them to get one the city probably need to chip in some cash to help The Citadel tear down the west side and replace it with more than 5000 seats.

I really don't care much about the size of the stadium or whether it is in a destination city. If it is, great, but I really just need a game the fans can reach, some great places to eat/drink, a community that embraces the bowl and enough room in the stadium for the actual fans that will show up. The rest is just fluff in my opinion.

^ I agree with this mostly as well. I am glad the bowl selection process is getting more flexible. Having sub-par match-ups or teams from double-digits hours a way from the bowl site creates a lot of duds come bowl season.

For the SBC, New Orleans hits the west, Mobile the middle and South Carolina could be the east. That said, some of the bowls could get really boring if the same teams are featured over and over again.

The only thing I don't agree with is that I think some players, staff and a few fans do care about the city. I think New Orleans would be more attractive to some folks than Mobile.

Little Rock would be good because it's more centrally located than the east coast and they have nothing much going on there so a bowl game could get the focus of the whole town..let's face it, a game between a mac and sbc team would not be a big draw in any of the " high profile" cities.

Stadium in Charlston, Seats 21,000- In 2008 the West Side Tower opened. The Bulldogs celebrated the re-opening of the West Stands for the 2006 season. The completed project features luxury suites, club seats, a state-of-the-art press box and all the expected amenities of a modern-day facility.

How many people attend bowl games that have MAC and SB tames playing?

We took in the neighborhood of 10K to each of the last two GoDaddy Bowls. It is a 10 hour drive from JB and 8 or 9 from LR.

Charleston is awesome and in the end bowls for fans are mini vacations. Charleston is always a fun place to visit. I know their stadium situation isn't great, but I'd much rather go to a bowl game there than one in Birmingham, Shreveport, Montgomery, Little Rock, or Mobile.

How many total people attended the game and is a 21,000 seat stadium big enough?

30 K, give or take a few, as I recall. Mobile locals support GoDaddy pretty well.

Doesn't the county actually own the football stadium that The Citadel plays in.
Believe they even got some of the money to build their West side towers by having it constructed
so that National Guard and/or county events could be held there also.

It's been said at least a half dozen times...

No, 21k is not nearly enough. Outside of a nightmare scenario of Idaho/NMSU vs Buffalo/UMASS, there is no way a SBC/MAC game could be played in a 21k seat stadium.

2013 Godaddy Arkansas State vs Kent State-37,913
2012 Godaddy Arkansas State vs NIU-38-734
2011 Godaddy Middle Tennessee vs Miami(OH)-38,168
2010 Godaddy Troy vs Central Michigan-34,486

I agree that the venue is sub standard, but IF they renovated and expanded the visitors' side and maybe filled in the endzone opposite the field house to get to 35K seats then Charleston would be a perfect host city for a smaller bowl game. 04-cheers
plenty of hotels, restaurants, and bars. Also, a good amount of parking around there for the game and tailgating. I honestly don't know who owns the stadium (thought citadel did), it is just off (or on the fringe) of campus between the baseball stadium (yankee's AA team) and a high school. It is only short ride (or very long walk) to the heart of downtown.

Looks like Montgomery is still on the running. They are talking about playing in the Cramton Bowl which only seats 25,000.

I didn't think a new game could get worse than Little Rock. I guess I was wrong. This game sounds horrible. Another MAC vs Sun Belt matchup in Alabama. I would rather have one less tie in.

Can't agree with that. I want as many bowl ties as we can get. However, I would like to see some other conferences get involved. It makes no sense for SBC-CUSA isn't a bigger deal since we occupy a lot of the area of the country.
