That is the size of our stadium so how is that not true? And that is what I heard it was for baskeball. I live in Atlanta so I couldn't be at many games to see for myself.

31K max for football. I believe the official # of seats is 30,788. And his point wasn't how big your stadium is. It's how big your support is. As for our attendance last year it was awful coming off the worst season we've had in 30 years. And then to play a horrid first game many of those who did show up didn't come back until we strung together three wins only for us to lose that game too.

Basketball attendance was about 5300 last year.

Well, I guess I was way off. I retract my previous statement. 04-drinky

Even though I don't know much about MT, FIU, FAU, WKU, and UTSA, I can say that most of us won't really care much unless rivalries develop.

To maintain, or improve CUSA's position prior to realignment, I see the newbies in 3 categories:

Tier 1- ODU and Charlotte. Their following, market, history, excitement level about new fball are all great indicators of what is to come. I also see them as offsets to some of the schools we lost.

Tier 2- UNT, UTSA, MT, and WKU. Plenty of potential. Some of have shown they can do well, and draw well. But they seem to be either fball or bball oriented. Would like for them to have both, 35-45K in fball, and 7-10k in bball during good seasons.. I don't know if their stadiums are even big enough to handle these numbers (except for UTSA's city facility which is also a convention center). Stadiums that seat under 30K are not going to meet what the conference needs to keep up with the MWC and yAAC.

Tier 3- FIA, FAU. I'm crossing my fingers, but I just don't see them making a huge jump. IMHO, this is where CUSA is really hoping something develops.

I think College Football Hall of Famer Hayden Fry and his coaching tree disciple and former Iowa assistant coach, ie, UNT HFC Dan McCarney will get North Texas back to what a few of you will remember was a pretty damn good NCAA D1 football program that scheduled and beat P5 schools when others similar at our level (G5?) back in that day couldn't even get on many of their schedules. Fact is, the Big Boys were not scheduling too many G5 type schools that had not been NCAA D1 since the 50's and 60's. Without wanting to be too smug here, but what level was your school operating at in the 1950's, ie, an era that sports scribes call the beginnings of NCAA Division 1's modern era? NOTE: Of course, I'm not referring to any of you that were in the Southwest Conference with this.

UNT also received Top 20 poll rankings which will at least blow one part of your category level theory as to what we as UNT alums will expect from now on with no exceptions. In fact, no one at North Texas is going to be content until we reach that entire Mean Joe Greene (60's) and Coach Fry (70's) eras across the board level of NCAA D1-A success again. With that in mind, is there a category for that level of success when that happens, except for what Southern Miss has very successfully attained in CUSA for a number of years which is what I would coin as a mega-level or catagory? USM is without a doubt the bell cow of this new Conference-USA. La Tech will be a mover and shaker, too.

This...

North Texas may be new to CUSA but we aren't new to having had NCAA D1 FBS level success and a level that is only recently new to others at this point; in fact, for that matter, some just up from the Sun Belt have a bit over a decade of membership at this level. Athletically of late, though, UNT has been living beneath our dignity and expectation based on past NCAA D1 success.

Coach McCarney had approx. 500 Texas HS football players (many with pedigree) and about 1,100 parents, coaches, etc, along with those approx. 500 at his Friday Night Lights program at Apogee Stadium couple weeks ago. As a multi-decade follower of Mean Green football, I can assure you that his recruiting now in its 3'rd year is taking off.

When Coach Mac was hired, he had already lost that year of early recruiting so at present he only has 2 recruiting classes on campus and as other Texas-based schools in CUSA or the AAC will tell you early recruiting is where its at in the Lone Star State. It is my understanding that few of these kids will change their minds on their early commitments, too.

I kid, but seriously you will not see much on our games they have no bearing on CUSA...You will however get play by play in Women's Swimming! 03-drunk

We were so far off the gas in that game. The RB got clocked by a 3rd stringer. Normal hits go awry all the time. There was no such head hunting.

Absolutely, spot-on.

I consider a 31K stadium small. So hopefully, there are plans to expand as a result of growing interest (assuming an expanded stadium doesn't end up half-full, as ThreeBy stated).

Take a look around the conference. UTEP, UTSA, Rice and UAB are the only stadiums over 40k. Southern Miss(36k) and Marshall(38k) have slightly larger stadiums, but in 2014 8 out of 14 CUSA stadiums are ~31k or less.

RE: See What WKU Brings to CUSA
When Western Kentucky plays UAB in wherever (the Blazers lease with Lesion Field expires after this year, the thought of having to renew that lease sickens me a great deal), I'm so hoping that Bobby Petrino is still the head football coach...Many Atlanta Falcons fans (like myself) have not forgotten what he did to the team for the one season he was in charge, & it wouldn't surprise me at all if there were some non-Blazers football followers in the stands for that game to make the trip over just to give Petrino a hard time, which will suit me just fine, we need as many fannies in the stands as possible, plus, the "Teacher vs. Student" angle is very much prevalent in this potential matchup provided also that Garrick McGee is still ringing the bell at UAB...Guess we'll have to wait and see about that, but I for one, am glad to have WKU in Conference USA...Be sure to bring "Big Red" down with you, too.

Here's how I see the new guys...

Tier 1 - Charlotte, FAU, FIU, LaTech, MT, ODU, UNT, UTSA, WKU, .... great potential athletic prowess in all of those schools but we have to wait and see who steps up to the plate. Some have shorter steps to take than others so they have an advantage at the starting gate. ALL have to take a step so they all have something to prove.

Agreed on the school pimping - if you're in you're in. People don't like pimping when there's an open spot available -- you just look like an ignored little brother trying to be one of the older kids .... it's as if (a) you think anyone on this board has a vote, (b) pimping to a bunch of people who have enough time on their hands to be on a bbs will further your cause and © a video that's just like every other video by every other school is somehow different because the colors/mascot are different.

Marshall and S Miss, are just under, so the teams you listed account for about half the conference. If we are OK with fball venues under 40K, average attendance under 25K, and so on, we really ARE the Sun Belt. (it also means that Charlotte, ODU, and UTSA WILL, surpass those established schools).

If we are not comparable programs, then conference members will want out. The BE/yAAC is the perfect example.

Anyway, if folks are going to talk their programs big.... Then that's all it is, just talk. USM and Marshall fans, please correct me if I am off here. Because I "bought into" the future CUSA based on what each new member could do. Otherwise, NMSU would've been just as good.03-puke
