Jackie Williams is gone
UAB is bigger than just Jackie Williams. And if our seasons success was purely in the hands of Jackie Williams, then we have more problems than just the loss of a player.
In any given practice or game, you are one injury away from losing a given player for the season potentially.
Lets not make more of this than it is. I'm sure McGee had just cause.

Hand is raised. I believe he has Coach McGee's best interests at heart. If he could win 10 games this year, and move on, I don't think he'd care what the program he left here looked like.

I will miss Jackie and will never forget his catch to beat Troy in 2010. Wish him all the best and hope he gets himself together, whatever is ailing him.

I agree with 9911. I think McGee does and will do whatever's best for him. as far as whether it was his decision or someone else's? Gimme a break.

We don't know, and it is not our job to demand explanations, which might serve to further mess up team chemistry.
McGee will be judged by results on the field, not by fans rubberstamping his personnel decisions.
Good point. The call may have come from someone in UAB administration.

I do support the team. I also support the kids that make up the team. They are the team not the coach. I won't just get over it though. I know that kid and he lives UAB football, he's put in a tremendous amount if work on the field and off, the results are on record. It's for those reasons that this is extremely upsetting and that a lot of people wont easily just "get over it and move on", myself included. Maybe you can be a cold heartless prick like that but I can't.

The other part of this that's really upsetting is I know that other players have been "dismissed" under McGee and it was not made public. Some ended up returning to the team and are there now. This situation is strange. McGee shouldn't have to explain every decision he makes but he is still trying to build a brand and loyalty and trust, IMO. With such a high profile player, one would think there more of an explanation. JMO. Y'all have yours.

Whatever the reason he is gone, get over it and support the team.
+1. Will miss him, but this.

RE: Jackie Williams is gone
Without knowing the specifics, it is just speculation on my part.
When did it happen? During practice or some other time?
If it was outside of practice, then it would lead us to some type of reasons.
If it was within practice, then we may have a good idea of what happened.
It definitely isn't a good time for this to happen for the team, however if it is/was something that needed to be done, timing shouldn't matter.

I think we have seen examples of that in the past.

That's remarkably cynical.
Stuff this one in your pipe and smoke it:
He WON'T win 10 games this year, or any other (here, or elsewhere), if he actually thinks in such a way.
If you are just in it for the you then you aren't going to make it very far in the game of football, or life in general for that matter.
If he does have success here eventually and later moves on to the "big leagues" it will be an effect, not a cause.

Not true at all, as far as I can tell.
He'd be an idiot to kick Jackie off the team without a good reason, regardless of his true motivations. Losses are not good for anyone in the program.

Oh you better believe compliance and the ADs were all over this, if for no other reason than to be sure there was nothing else they needed to clean up. Everyone important is on the same page.

WTF? I ran across Jackie a lot in the offseason last year, always softspoken, polite and outgoing with me...This breaks my heart, whatever the reason may be...He is a very important part of this team, and to not have him on the field may have dire consequences for the offensive side of the ball....Damn!!!!!This is so ****ed up!!!

The one position I think we could afford to lose a player at is wide receiver. I hope whatever Jackie did wrong is correctable for his and the team's sake.
Right, and the message is working hard and being responsible gets you fired.
Your friend ain't right bright.

I didn't say he was going to win 10 games this year. This team doesn't have the talent to win anywhere near 10 games. I just said I think that if he knew he could win 10 games and move on, but screw UAB over in the process, I believe he'd do it.
I just don't get the feeling McGee cares one bit about UAB. That's my opinion, and that's all it is.
When McGee and Haase were hired, I felt that McGee was happy to have a head coaching job, and Haase was happy to be at UAB. I don't know either guy personally, this is all just based off of my gut feel based on their actions since they've been at UAB.

Maybe when you run across Jackie again you can ask him what he did (or didn't do) that cost him his spot on the team. I know Drew Champlin has made contact with him, providing Jackie the opportunity to tell his side if he so chooses.
