Some people at al.com must be sleeping with the guy.

I have never seen so much discussion from 1 news medium talking about someone from another.

The Matt and Scott Show is the worst show I've ever listened to for even a day. That says something in the Bham sports market, lol.

There are a few stations that I don't have programmed in on my radio.

94.5 is one of them.
100.5 soon will be one of them.

When Paul is the "Journalist" interviewing really significant sports figures, he is very good. When he slips into the "Ringmaster" mode with his traveling circus of paid callers, he is significantly something less. Without him, we might have never found out who poisoned those trees at Toomer's Corner and why.

Reading the comments of folks at the end of this article is like listening to Paul's old shows once again. It's like "Tammy" (pro AU) and "Shane" (pro UA) all over again as they slam each other instead of talking sports - "full of Sound and Fury, signifying nothing".

I actually like Matt n Scot, especially in light of the other options. I also listen to 690AM(CBS Sports Radio) on occasion. I suspect their move is more contract-related. That is, their contract may be such that they cannot be "released" w/o the radio station being on the hook for the remainder of the contract. Getting those guys to relocate from Dallas to Birmingham was probably an expensive proposition. On the bright side, I don't have to listen to Finebaum during my drive home when I do decide to listen to sports radio. I hope they don't bring back Finebaum replays as they have done in the past.

I suspect his persona on the radio will change a little now.

I don't believe ESPN would put up with what he did here.

This is indirectly athletics related as on the rare occasion UAB and/or Conference USA items may be discussed on the mentioned shows, so this is an appropriate thread for this forum.

A thread with Paul Finebaum's name in it is never, ever appropriate - period!

I wonder if his popularity wanes locally because his scope pretty much has to be beyond gump nation now.

Doesn't it?

His scope has to be beyond local now, however locally they are too ignorant to realize that his scope has changed.

RE: Paul Finebaum's return causes Birmingham's WJOX to shuffle lineup
I think you guys are looking at it wrong. He will still focus mainly on Alabamaand the SEC. The SEC is college football these days, according to ESPN and the list of national champions over the past six years. ESPN is picking up Finebaum because of this focus. I even think the sideshow of idiot callers will remain, because it will be popular nationally, reinforcing the Southern redneck stereotype.

You don't pick up a popular show and then change it from the format that made it popular.

Remember Finebaum has been national before when he was on Satellite radio. He didn't change his format then.

In that case, I'm pretty sure I'll continue not listening to him.

Anyone who thinks Alabama and Auburn fans have a monopoly on extreme views hasn't listened to other area's sports talk or read other area's comments on line. Paul will not be dependent upon this state's yahoos for the entertainment of his audience. They abound in ample supply all over the nation, and I suspect Paul will find them or they will find him. I just hope he will keep them in check long enough to have the interviews of national sports figures at which he can excel.
