Ugh. Not really a fan of Fox's cartoonish coverage of the NFL or NASCAR. They have done a better job with soccer so hopefully they follow that format with the golf.

Game coverage of the NFL's okay, if you get the right broadcast trio..

NASCAR on the other hand.. I really hope they make some major changes for FS1...

I"ll give them the benefit of a doubt until we get more details about who's going to be their airing personalities.

Just curious though.. .who does own the Golf Channel? I'd steal a couple of their broadcasters actually.

it's a shame this wasn't 20 years ago(heck, even 10 years ago), would have had Pat Summerall calling golf.

Anything is better than Chris Berhman of ESPN on golf.

Actual game coverage on Fox is fine. The extra production aspects need to be updated. Most importantly, they need to retire that stupid robot/monster thing that takes us to commercial breaks.

As long as FOX doesn't get the Masters, I'm okay with it.

If there is anyone who doesn't think Fox is becoming a major player in the TV sports world they need to start taking notice.

World Cup, US Open (Golf), Daytona 500, World Series, Superbowl

FS1 is really going to push ESPN, and that is good for us the viewers. Competition makes the product better.

a lot of what you mentioned is never going to be on FS1. Daytona 500, World Series, Super Bowl. They are going to be a lot like ESPN in their coverage.

Like I have told everyone here... Fear Fox. They are the Walmart of networks.

Fox Sports is a brand. Just like when ESPN folks are on ABC. This is clearly going to be a situation where it flows between the sports network and Fox OTA. Personalities will appear on both. NASCAR will have many races on FS1, even if the Daytona 500 is on Fox OTA the build up will be on FS1 and those personalities will be on Fox. Just like when the CFB national title game is on ABC and being called by ESPN personalities. All the pregame and lead up will be on FS1. You can't act like it has no effect on that new sports network. This isn't NBC or CBS, this is a legit new player on the scene.

You are 100% correct, The Golf Channel joined the NBC family officially January 1st this year. That's part of what makes this so amazing to me. Not so much that Fox got it, is that NBC let it slip away. NBC has for a while been almost the unofficial home of the USGA.

NBC has shown little desire to open up their wallets for big time properties.

Oh they do.. they just do it for weird stuff (other than ND).

I think they overspent on NHL, I think they overspent for the Tour de France, they overspent for the 7-on-7 World Rugby stuff

RE: FOX boots NBC from the US OPEN golf championship
^^^ ESPN also lost their piece of the USGA properties (1st and 2nd rd coverage of the US Open, US Senior Open and US Women's Open). Wasn't just NBC.

^^ Some of NBC's properties:

Olympics
NFL
NHL
BPL
PGA Tour
Ryder Cup & Presidents Cup
Formula One
Indy Car
NASCAR (starting in 2015, 2nd half of season)
Notre Dame football

They've opened up their wallets and have big properties.

FOX offered $100 million/year for the USGA package. More than twice their competitors. That will get it done most times. As a golf fan, not all that happy with their decision, as I suspect it to be similar to FOX coverage of the BCS games without covering college football all season.

Fox Sports 1 adds horse racing:

NBC still has the Triple Crown

CBS took the AFC from NBC... then they dropped NASCAR.

RE: FOX boots NBC from the US OPEN golf championship
NBC and the Golf Channel will continue to be the dominant name in golf... with the three FedEx Cup playoff events, the Ryder Cup, the Florida swing and Houston Open leading up to the Masters, and The Players Championship.

I wonder if Fox will give them the OTA coverage on the main network and then pre and post show on FS1 and then a couple of replays of the daily coverage like NBC does on the Golf Channel. It's obvious this was about the money, but I think they'll be sacrificing exposure and coverage!
