The greatest of all sports.
It's hard to hit a ball that is not moving, get it to go where you want, and play against a standard instead of another person.

I live on a golf course. I'd rather watch paint dry than watch anyone play golf, especially on television.

PGA Tour
Ryder Cup & Presidents Cup
Formula One
Indy Car
NASCAR (starting in 2015, 2nd half of season)
Notre Dame football

They've opened up their wallets and have big properties.

FOX offered $100 million/year for the USGA package. More than twice their competitors. That will get it done most times. As a golf fan, not all that happy with their decision, as I suspect it to be similar to FOX coverage of the BCS games without covering college football all season.

1 NFL game is not having big properties. Formula one is not big, Indy isnt big. They are second rate at best.

The highest rating television show is not a big property? 01-wingedeagle NBC is paying the same as CBS and FOX.

Golf, like ice-hockey, somehow loses a lot of its dramatic power on television. Not sure why that is, but it is.

But to be there in person, at an historic course while elite-level players are competing, is a very intense experience.

Yeah, who'd want the top show in all of television? Example of one talking out of their ass and then defending it, no matter. Oh well.

Good article on the negotiations between the USGA with FOX and NBC. Have a feeling those in Far Hills are going to be experiencing a chill from some influential people in the golf community outside of Far Hills in the coming years. I'm sure the additional $20 million/year will thaw them out, however.

Who has the British and European TV rights for the Ryder Cup? It seems like Fox and its cousin Sky would be well positioned to win this.

The only potential issue I see for Fox is that the Ryder Cup falls during the NFL season. The years that it's held in Europe could work for Fox if they can run just a 4:25 PM NFL game. The years that it's held in the US would be more of an issue. If the final day of Ryder Cup competition airs on Fox Sports 1, that won't be an issue.

Sky Sports is indeed the UK rights holder for the Ryder Cup.

As for the US rights, the PGA of America, who owns the property, will want a OTA network for the final days matches. Scratch FOX or CBS from the list. Not going to happen. Plus, FOX isn't going to restrict their NFL package. Hell, with the way the USGA handled this announcement, the PGA of America may strike FOX off it's list for partnering with the USGA anyways :-). Some bad blood in the world of golf at the executive level at the moment.

1 game is not having the property.

They were outbid for every major property that has come up in the last few years.

Ok, continue to think what you want, but 19 regular season prime time games, annual playoff games, 3 Super Bowls over 9 years and having the ability to select most of the best matchups each week (flex scheduling) says differently.

I'll say this, ESPN wishes they had the NBC NFL package.

They do, it's called Monday Night Football.

RE: FOX boots NBC from the US OPEN golf championship
just look at the first weeks- before Flex Scheduling takes over for NBC:
NBC:
Balt @ Denver
NYG @ Dallas
San Francisco @ Seattle
Chicago @ Pittsburgh
New England @ Denver
Houston @ San Francisco
Washington @ Dallas
Denver @ Indianapolis
Green Bay @ Minnesota
Indianapolis @ Houston
Dallas @ New Orleans

ESPN:
Philadelphia @ Washington
Houston @ San Diego
Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati
Oakland @ Denver
Miami @ New Orleans
NY Jets @ Atlanta
Indianapolis @ San Diego
Minnesota @ NY Giants
Seattle @ St Louis
Chicago @ Green Bay
Miami @ Tampa Bay

I'm sorry, but NBC's package is WAY ahead of ESPN. And that's before flex scheduling the last 7 weeks, including getting a game last night of the season that is almost guaranteed to be a playoff deciding game. Also, NBC gets Super Bowl's every 3 years. ABC does not.
