worth a chuckle. seriously, teams like florida have so much more team speed and overall depth and strength that they usually shell shock teams from the lower levels..even good ones. they could be mentally flat and not sharp tho..sometimes that keeps these games a little closer but teams like ga southern usually make enough mistakes that the outcome is never really in doubt. I like these kind of games and always hope the big name team with all the money and press gets beat so I'll be pulling for southern..

RE: GaSo vs Florida
Very rarely have we been shell shocked by bcs opponents, at least in the first half. Even against eventual national champion Alabma we played fairly close for the first half. Same was true in Athens last year. I think that is really all he is calling for and I would tend to agree. Our starters have enough speed to put up points early on with the triple option. The only way I see it getting out of hand quick is if we put the ball on the ground, which is entirely possible. We will have to wait and see

RE: GaSo vs Florida
If our cornerbacks can limit huge plays then we can compete.

Saw a tweet for the Bama beat writer where Kirby Smart (Bama DC) said he would rather face a hurry up offense than the triple option. Best writer made the comment that Smart is still having nightmares about the Ga Southern game.

I thought it was a fairly accurate breakdown of the game. I don't think Florida will be anywhere near as good as last years UGA or 2011 UA and this will be our best offensive team under Monken. Will be an interesting game

RE: GaSo vs Florida
Us keeping the game close depends on our defense, not our offense. I believe that UF is going to be able to score at will against us this year and this writer is being generous by saying that they'll only score 38 points.

My prediction for this game closely resembles our past history with top 10 I-A teams...we'll keep it "close" for the half and put up some yards and a few points, but in the 2nd half Florida will pull away and the final score will be closer to something like 52-21.

The Kool-Aid must be excellent in Statesboro. Florida's third string team would maul your starters before the 1st Qtr was over.

Speed, size, strength, and depth relegate you upstarts to 30 point dogs. It could be worse if they want it to be.

So the mighty gators will do what UGA and Bama could not do? Right.

Senatobia,

We have done well against top 5 BCS teams recently. Down 10 at the half to national champs Bama and should have been leading #3 UGA 14-10 were it not for a phantom chop block on 4th down with a minute to go.

Now you worry about Ark St and don't be trailing 50-10 at halftime like last year against Oregon. I watched that game. Starters resting at halftime. Bama's starters played every snap against us as indicated by Trent Richardson's season high 32 carries. And I am a big Ark St fan by the way. Lots of respect for,the Red Wolves.

Dream big, but be ready for reality.

Reality isn't pretty most of the time.

While you may have a talented team, they have elite athletes three deep at every position.

Don't get your hopes up too high.

Last time I check Florida would only be able to play 11 players at a time.

Just from past history, Alabama only played 49 players in there game against Georgia Southern in 2011.

Now Georgia did play 66 players in there game last year against Georgia Southern.

Now does any of the above mean anything. No it does not. All I can say is watch Georgia Southern game against Florida because after that game the Eagle's next stop will be the Sun Belt.

RE: GaSo vs Florida
Can GaSo win this game---YES, will GaSo win this game----odds are against them.

The biggest difference between teams like Florida and GaSo is depth, althought GaSo is currently adding more scholarships and talent, it will still take some time.
Last year AppState played ECU tooth and nail and was winning for three quarters and thats when ECU took over in the fourth and capitalized on our mistakes and our lack of depth showed. GaSo has the type of offense that can grind it out and keep the ball out of Florida's high powered offensive hands, but GaSo cannot get behind in the game, they have been historically bad at trying to come back from behind becuase they typically don't pass the ball alot.

I'm rooting for GaSo and all Sun Belt teams to destroy those we play, and change the perception that the Sun Belt might be one of the lower conferences. When a Sun Belt team beats up on any BCS opponent it makes all of us Sun Belt teams look better.

Are we talking about the same Florida team that should have lost to ULL last year? The same ULL that ASU beat by 4 touchdowns?

Teams can denigrate GaSo's offense all they want, but when you have to play them
you will not be putting them down or just dismissing them as an afterthought.
Better start getting ready today.

No way in hell Florida scores more than 38 points against us. Florida's offense is putrid. And we control the clock. Lets not forget that Florida was destroyed by Louisville. Louisville. Louisville lost at home to UCONN. UCONN. And lost on the road to Syracuse. Syracuse.

Heard the same thing about Bama. Heard the same thing about UGA. Hear it about Florida this year. Going to hear it about LSU soon too. In other news, the sun also rose today...

GSU will have played in Braynt Denny, Samford, and the Swamp three years in a row as an 'FCS' team. I think Death Valley is next year or 2015. Big deal. Nothing new to us. Nothing scary to us. Nothing we haven't seen (size, speed, and strength) before. If anything, it's good to have that kind of challenge each year.

While both the Bama and UGA games were losses, we put up 302 rushing yards against both of them, which I think is very respectable. Not much of that was done in 'garbage' time. If anything when you look at those two games, most of the yards and points were accumulated in the first 3 quarters of both games. Hell, I remember Saban going for it against us on 4th down late in the 4th quarter and eventually scoring on that drive. But he will tell you style points don't matter.

(Interesting side discussion: 2011 was when Bama lost to LSU in the regular season and played them again for the championship. Question, if the final score of the GSU-Bama game is 38-21 or, god forbid, 31-21 (aka that blocked kick returned for a touchdown doesn't happen) do they get to go to the national championship?)

But I get what you are saying. What possible hope could we, a tiny program with tiny players, running a high school offense, have against a mighty team like Florida.

Now hop in the DeLorean, gun it to 88mph and head to 2007. Michigan is going to put a HUGE hurt on App State. They are too big, to fast, and have too much depth. App shouldn't bother showing up. It's just a money game and an easy win to start the season for Michigan.

(I can't believe I just gave props to Appy)

The odds of being struck by lightening at the game are better than GaSo 's odds of winning the game.
