NBE will sorely miss Syracuse, UConn, ND and Pitt. Add schools like L'Ville and WV who was peaking and BC who left earlier and there is a big time major hole in the NBE that even Butler, Xavier, and Creighton cannot replace. I think they will be hurting in the long run.

Fox had to pay them enough money to cover the amount of money they would be leaving on the table plus startup fees. Not a single one of those schools are going to bring in revenue related to major football which includes ticket sales, merchandise deals, and playoff money.
They are major conference in terms of basketball quality because they will earn multiple bids to the NCAA tournament every season; however, their voting rights are not equal to any of the major football leagues. Watching what happens to that league is going to be very interesting.
We didn't give up the credits earned by the C7. That was part of the prenup. We did give up 90% or so of the exit fees and credits from the schools that left.

That may or may not be true, but all the big-time FBS members of the Big East left.

The AAC will miss sorely miss those schools as well (except uconn of course) There is no bringing them back. Is the hole filled in the aac, by the likes of tulane, smu ecu and houston any smaller than the hole left by the departure of Syracuse, ND,Pitt, BC, Lville, WVU and the C7? Temple and Memphis help but certainly arent an even trade.
IMO the C7 will be better off long term than what the alternative was.

The Big East will be a little sexier version of the a10. Nobody cares until basketball season. I think the overall look of the Big East feels more small time without football playing schools. That is just me.

Will be interesting the effects of no longer having football around for the new Big East.
Looking at 20 year periods
1954-1973 19 non division 1 football members made the final four only 2 where from the C7
1974-2003 13 non division 1 football members made the final four, 11 where from C7
2004-2013 9 non division 1 football schools made the final four, 4 where from the C7
So from that pattern looks like its getting tougher for the non football schools and that the C7 did benefit from their football tie ins, specially before the league started loing football schools.

I think the split was best for all involved. While the bball league was phenomenal it was JUST to big and you could dig yourself in a hole quickly and struggle to make the tourney. The C7 now have an easier path as well as the other teams that made up the former big east. Best for all involved and now Seton hall and providence can breath a little easier. No more Syracuse, Pitt, wvu, Cincy,UConn, and Lou to compete with. They should have a legit shot at the NCAA's now. The former league did teams no favors.

In the end both groups will benefit by not being within the same conf. I do not think the New BE members really understand the product they need to restore - UC/Ville/Uconn/Cuse/ND/WVU/Pitt. That's a pretty good group of bball schools. I also believe USF made a SW16 recently too.
