Its about 5 or 6 spots lower than I thought, but then thinking about the source of the poll, it certainly is not surprising. Especially after last year NIU has become the villain for supposedly stealing the BCS spot from scared OU. There was going to be BCS coach backlash no doubt. I would not doubt NIU could beat both Iowa and Purdue and a good portion of BCS coach voters would not rank NIU. It really is meaningless though, but that is just how the system is, and the bias grows even stronger after last year. I would imagine NIU is slightly higher in the AP , maybe 30-35?

Do you think any of those voters thought NIU had a chance to get in a BCS bowl. I think it blindsided them, and if many of those BCS coaches really understood how close NIU was, they would have voted NIU lower (much like Pollack noted on the BCS selection show). The voters will make sure a MAC team wont get that chance this year, and with that much money on the line, can't say I blame them. Id probably do the same.

If we want to STAY with the big guys, we need to start playing a tougher schedule.

Yeah, but there have been quite a few non-AQs that have made BCS bowls. A non-AQ making a BCS bowl last year was not the first time ever where now all of a sudden they will vote only for the 5 power conferences.

The fact is if we keep winning, we will continue to move up. Undefeateds always end up very high no matter their strength of schedule or anything. As you get to 15, then 2 teams lose ahead of you - you move up to 13, and so on. It would've nice to be even closer to the top 25, but what can you do. Starting out on the right foot is obviously a huge key.

In general I agree, get tougher games at home, but as far as the away non-conf schedule two Big 10 road games and one of those in one of the tougher venues in the Big 10 to play, is plenty tough enough for me.
