Jason Kelce looks like a mountain man.

RE: Former Bearcats in the NFL
2. Travis Kelce

So far, the game doesn't look to big for the rookie. He has made inaccurate passes thrown to him look routine. Recently in practice, he went out for a one handed grab on a drag route. He then tipped the ball to himself and made the catch with a defender draped over him. Kelce has a unique blend of size and athletic ability. In the run game, Kelce sticks with his blocks. He may not have the best footwork or position in his block yet. The big thing though is that he is relentless in his blocks. And he finishes each play until the whistle blocks. Kelce will show flashes this season but when he puts it all together...watch out.

Kelce has been so impressive that head coach Andy Reid has given a lot of praise for his rookie and going as far as to compare him to Giants, Saints and Panthers tight end Jeremy Shockey because of his style of play and potential.

“He gives you another offensive threat, somebody that the defense will have to honor by speed and athletic ability,’’ Reid said, via the Kansas City Star. “They moved him (in college) all around so he doesn’t have to play in line. You can move him out as a wide receiver in that position and he’s a legitimate receiver from that spot.”

Kelce will likely serve the Shockey-like role in the Chiefs offense and he embraces that opportunity.

Travis Kelce was the best tight end in last year's draft, teams that drafted tight ends before him are going to regret it.

Let's hope Ben and Malik can catch on to a practice squad somewhere...

Kelce

Quote:Kelce is less polished in the blocking game, but the former Cincinnati standout has been praised for his speed and ability to stretch the field.

"Travis has come a long way even from spring,'' Fasano said. "For a rookie, he has a lot of confidence and a great skill set. Losing Tony, if that were to happen, would definitely be a loss, but I think our tight end position would be able to step in and fill the void.''

Sounds like Hooey hurt his ankle and thus missed a big opportunity to impress the Rams Sat. I don't know how serious it is but apparently it's been problem at least back to August 10th if not longer.

Only if he gets his temper under control. His stupid penalties used to piss me off like no other...

Winn was in uniform but didn't play for the Pats. ESPN speculated on Sat that he's in trouble but may find a shot elsewhere:

Quote:With all that in mind, here's our guess at nine players who could be released on or before Tuesday's mandated deadline.

.....Running back George Winn. The Patriots are deep and talented in the backfield, though Winn could end up on a practice squad somewhere else around the league.

Rams cut OL Sean Hooey, undrafted rookie from Cincinnati who missed much of camp with ankle injury. That should bring roster to 53.

Haruki released by Panthers with injury settlement due to concussion. He's made a good career for himself in the NFL. Hope this isn't the end of it.

RE: Former Bearcats in the NFL
Thompkins analysis throught 2 games:

Thompkins drew the start, but proceeded to turn in his second wildly inefficient performance in just five days. Despite a nice effort on a potential 25-yard touchdown in the first half, Thompkins simply can't catch passes that aren't right in his bread basket. His field awareness also leaves much to be desired, though he's shown little trouble getting open. Injuries have necessitated that the Patriots put too much on Thompkins' plate too soon, and he's responded by playing like what he is: An undrafted rookie.

Seems about right. That's the same guy we knew.

The title of the thread should not be "former" bearcats. They are and always will be bearcats.

I'm happy for George, but I still hate the Steelers.
