Gosh I hope not. Black is not one of Rice's colors.

Sure looks that way. Remember, Rice basketball (and all other sports, following football's switch last year) will be switching to Adidas this academic year.

Yes, but Adidas is the brand with the drei streifen, not the schwarzblusen.

Ugh.

It amazes me that decisions as fundamental to representation of the university as athletic uniforms are allowed to be made on sport-by-sport, year-by-year, whim-by-whim basis. An inconspicuous sign that on one will see, on an obscure building that no one cares about, can require months of study and echelons of approval, all in the name of protecting the visual integrity and aesthetic quality of how the university presents itself. But an athletic uniform? It doesn't need to be consistent with anything (across time, across sports, whatever) and is not subject to any professional design review. Why is that?

I realize that the basketball uniforms picture here are not the most egregious example of non-standardization. They were just the springboard for a rant.

Fail to see why we cannot have some nice gray uniforms. Gray and Blue with a white accent would look excellent. Why would we go with black?? WHY?

These ones seem to represent the black hole that RG left us in 03-banghead

We had some gray alts a few years back that (imo) did not look good at all. They seemed almost yellow in the Tudor Fieldhouse lights, and made the players wearing them all look ill. Maybe Adidas can do better in making a gray uni, but I won't be holding my breath.

The blue on black otoh looks very sharp and would be nice to wear a couple times, so long as we keep the blues for the majority of road games.

A few schools have nice gray uniforms, so it should be doable. Atleast, I hope. For some reason, we have a serious aversion to gray; one would think our colors are blue and white.

The black ones look fine as uniforms, but I don't think they suit Rice. The elegance of the OER seems lost on the black.

My 2 cents...

Hope that Denzel Davis is okay following his painful looking injury.

RE: Rice Basketball vs University of British Columbia
Saturday afternoon, the Owls beat the Capilano U. Blues, 73-51, to sweep their British Columbia exhibition tour. They're spending the rest of today and Sunday in the lovely mountain resort town of Whistler before returning home on Monday.

WTG, Owls!!
