RE: Confessions of a college football junkie
Whoops- I am guilty of thinking St. Franks was the opener. So when I saw we were doing a promotion for what I thought was our 2nd home game ( the one I suspect will draw the least attendance), I thought it was a good idea. I figured the home opener would be a no brainer for attendance. We had 23250 last year and 25,100 two years ago. My guess is that promotion or similar will reappear for the St. Francis game. The second home game of the year usually suffers an attendance drop off from the opener unless it's a more exciting matchup. Gotta figure our fans don't differentiate between those two teams.

Yeah, I look at the two games to be identical. Though, I do hope we are better prepared for CCSU this year verses two years ago where they gave us a fit.

RE: Confessions of a college football junkie
My wife and I have only missed 4 games since 2004, and now we travel with another couple and are at 29 consecutive games since missing one in 2010. There were around 53 purple folks attending the game at NDSU. One of our highlights was that Stephon Robertson's Dad stayed at the same Fairfield Inn that we did, and we got to enjoy the freebie breakfast conversing with him. I also got to meet Roger Maris's brother in law when in Fargo. He is in his mid 80's and shared some wonderful stories with us. He is also a passionate NDSU fan. In Maine there were 38 folks at last year's game. A number of us met for lobster that night after the game. We love the road games that brings out fellow travelers rooting for JMU. And we would love to take the 500 or so folks who went to Dayton ANYWHERE JMU plays!!

Nice...so you were at the game at Maine in 2010 I take it? My buddies and I (one of which is a fellow poster on here) were the crazy dudes with our chests painted and stomping on the bleachers on the visitors side making more noise than the entire Maine crowd.

Actually the game we missed in 2010 was the Maine game. I believe that is the one Da'Quan was a one man wild cat QB and willed us to a win. But we were there in 2008 when Rodney was a beast and bulled us to a victory as a hurricane loomed off the coast of Maine and made landfall during the second half. We sat with Mike Caussin's parents, who went to all the games. We were there in 2004 when we were way down and came back in the last frantic minute with a diving TD catch by DD Boxley, a catch he repeated at the William & Mary playoff game. I actually felt that the Maine game was where we started our National Championship run. Sorry we missed you in 2010, but we were in the middle of a hectic period building our retirement home.

Haha not to burst your bubble then, but your consecutive game streak is only at 24 since that was the last game of the 2010 season.
THe 2010 game maybe only had about 30 Dukes fans(and probably only like 400 Maine fans).

Called Out! I am so embarrassed, Gulp! MY Bad! Guess I lost all Cred and my rating will go to Minus one! But missing 4 games in 9 years is not too shabby. Barring illness or the unforeseen, and perhaps a playoff run, we should do about 15 this year. During the Oct 19 bye, will likely be at Albany's Homecoming. I am looking forward to you introducing yourself at the New Hampshire game. Currently there are great airfares from Richmond to Boston. Hope you're using the thick purple paint for that Nov 9 date. If not we will let you borrow the Duke Dog Bankee. Lobster over in Kittery would be nice too, but I will only spring for a couple of beers. Your callout actually got me excited about the New Hampshire game!

Roadwarrior: Like you I also missed the 2010 Maine game- even though I'd ordered a ticket (which I recall not getting charged for). I'm sure I would recognize you from the few of us who were at NDSU in 11' and Maine last season.

Kudos to you. You definitely have me beat. During your 24 game streak the 2 games I missed were @ 11' @ W&M (family wedding) and @ EKU (could have gone but watched on TV and saved $$ for @ NDSU).

Planning on making 11 of 12 this regular season. Only planning on mkissing Akron- going to the Sprint (NASCAR) race at Richmond that weekend.

Should make any playoffs @ JMU or within a day's drive, and of course Frisco if that were to happen, so hopefully a bye and 14 out of 15!

I enjoyed the maine game with my brother and our 2 sons. No shirts in the snow, sleet, wind and rain was a bit crazy. As I recall Mrs. Mathews gave you guys some passes to warm up. My only disapointment was the Maine fans were not very engaging.

I envy you guys. That is the way I want to retire. Not sure I could get the Mrs. to go along with it. About 2 or 3 games a year is all she's game for.

We have fans on here whining about having to drive 2 hours to tailgate in the burg and watch jmu play teams they don't like, and then we have the JMU road warrior who apologizes for missing one game in Maine in 2010. You my friend are a true FANatic. You have followed this team through hurricanes, and in my opinion you rock. When I eventually run into you I will have a beer or twenty waiting for you. 04-cheers
