Johnny Manziel’s dad worries, “it could come unraveled”
“Yeah, it could come unraveled. And when it does, it’s gonna be bad. Real bad,” Paul Manziel said. “It’s one night away from the phone ringing, and he’s in jail. And you know what he’s gonna say? ‘It’s better than all the pressure I’ve been under. This is better than that.’”

RE: Johnny Manziel’s dad worries, “it could come unraveled”
I'm starting to think that the Texas A&M SID is a genius. He kept this goof and his backwards arse family away from Twitter and reporters for all of last year and as a result the kid - who played very well - won the hearts and minds of the general college football public and parlayed that (and a historically weak field) into a successful Heisman Trophy bid.

Remarkable.

The more I hear from the Johnnies - including Johnny Moron himself - the more remarkable that feat becomes.

This is all very simple; get off Twitter and tell your family to not speak with reporters. Every time you dum-dums open your mouths, you look worse and worse.

Just STFU for 10 minutes and everyone will love you again. Or keep talking and you will soon be the butt of everyone's jokes.

He's bringing this on himself - going out, flying all over the country, sitting courtside at Heat games, going to the ESPY's, etc. I don't feel bad for him.

having correcting Kyle's grammar, I feel sorry for Johnny

I can't imagine how he must feel; he's 20 and is under a microscope by the media, fans, etc.

A lesser person would say f**k it and go back to being a normal 20 year old college student but he can't and that sort of scares me. Just hope he doesn't go the Ricky Williams route and hole up in some hovel getting stoned day in and day out.

Okladixie, you're a hater. No one talks bad about Johnny. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Please don't confuse East Texas as normal. Texans are proud and we hold this state in high regard.

RE: Johnny Manziel’s dad worries, “it could come unraveled”
This is the classic example of someone too young getting too famous way too fast. He went from high school to most recognized man in Texas in less than 2 years. He just has not accepted yet he cant have a normal 20 year old life. He still thinks he can do all the stupid stuff that most 20 years olds do and get away with. How many people get kicked out of frat parties and you never hear about it? How many kids get arrested for minor things when they are 20? Ok not everyone, but those that do, its not the end of world. And like most 20 year olds, he will eventually grow up.
Some people like Peyton Manning was always mature and driven from the beginning, and never really get into trouble. But Manning is more the exception. Some never grow up like Ryan Leaf. Maybe its good this is happening now before Manziel gets lots of money. Maybe by next year manziel will learn he has to leave his party days behind and just work his but off to get better.

As long as he keeps doing to other teams what he did to Big 12 co-champ OU in the CB, none of this off season BS matters.

I previously posted that Manziel would be on the stage when the 2013 Heisman was announced, not sitting in the first row.

Now making the stage may be a little doubtful.

Agreeing with my fellow Hawkeye poster. Guys, he is just a 20 year old kid who wasn't mature enough yet to be able to properly handle all the pressure.

That doesn't mean the kid should be ridiculed for it, but unfortunately that seems to be how a lot of our country is wired up in the head. People need something to make fun of, perhaps in order to feel better about themselves...who knows.

I just feel bad for the kid that his college years are being taken from him. He wants to enjoy them as most college kids do and outsiders are trying to hold him to their own expectations of how he should or shouldn't act.

Yes he is making some bonehead decisions but most 20 year olds do. I was hoping he wasn't going to be given the Heisman because there was no way it wouldn't lead to this kind of scrutiny. They should pass a rule in a couple years that freshmen aren't eligible.

What kind of father goes to a national magazine and talks about their son's drinking and mental instability? This guy is the ultimate little-league dad - getting mad when the coaches don't text him back in a timely manner, blaming the university for the way his son acts, etc. What happened to parental responsibility? If your son is screwed up, that's on you as a parent.

RE: Johnny Manziel’s dad worries, “it could come unraveled”
I definitely agree with the Iowa dudes that this kid became too successful and too famous too soon and that most of these incidents are evidence of that. I also agree with those saying that many of these incidents have been blown WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY out of proportion.

I honestly don't disagree with any of that and I do feel for the kid and his family on that front.

My point is that Johnny Football can't have everything both ways. You don't get to sit courtside at the NBA Finals and hang out with LeBron James afterwards, or make your rounds on the late night talk show circuit, or hobnob with other celebrities all over the country; and then get to claim that you are just an average 20 year-old kid when the other side of fame also comes into play.

Don't get me wrong, you can certainly do all of the aforementioned things because you have earned that right and you are fortunate enough to live in a country that permits all of us to sometimes do stupid things provided they are within the law. However you just can't do those things and then refuse to accept the added scrutiny that comes with that territory. That part simply will not work.

As the bible has taught each of us in the Parable of the Faithful Servant: "To whom much is given, much will be expected."

Johnny Football isn't the first guy to be slow to understand that lesson and he certainly won't be the last. However, he does have to accept that reality or it will eventually engulf him.

What concerns me about the kid is that he doesn't appear to have a support network in place that can keep him grounded - be it friends, teammates, fellow students, a girlfriend, parents, coaches, etc. There just don't appear to be many (any?) anchors in that kid's life - or at least people he's willing to listen to - and I think everyone involved is really going to regret that void down the road.

Also, once the momentum of public sentiment starts to build against you, it can be almost impossible to reverse and can lead to some disastrous consequences - especially for someone so obviously emotionally (and perhaps mentally) unprepared to deal with such fierce backlash.

One thing is fo-sho; that kid needs to get the hell of Twitter, stat. He is costing himself credibility and/or money with almost every single tweet. It's starting to sneak into Amanda Bynes territory and nobody wants to sail their ship into those waters.

Nice..... Johnny football doesn't know how to make mac n' cheese or wash his own clothes. That pretty much says a lot about his upbringing. He'd been a lot better off without that ESPN article interviewing his father.
