Yep that will do it. If you go too far down Bourbon you will run into a very different world.

Well perhaps your girlfriend should be worried. I have partied in the French Quarter a lot, and have rarely wasted my time worried about men dressed as women.

You said white knuckled? Really she needs a man, not a *****, there is nothing to fear amidst tens of thousands of tourist.

I'm sure this happened well before you were born.....nevertheless, the city is loaded with them still.

You give Cajun fans a bad name. People do get shot and mugged in the French Quarter. A quick google search will bring you a bunch of hits too numerous to mention. Walking to far down Bourbon is not a good idea or venturing off on one of the side streets. Also being down there after 2:00 AM is not a very good idea. He had every right to be concerned. Do you get off putting people down and calling them names? After a football game or a major event it's safe and the hub of Bourbon is patrolled by the NOPD usually on horseback. I had a cousin mugged at about 3:00 AM on Bourbon walking back to the Royal Sonesta. New Orleans is a wonderful city and a top ten U.S. tourist destination but you do have to be careful.

Thanks Rcajun....but I was just playing with him.

That girlfriend I spoke of lived in Chalmet.....she was well-aware of where to go and where not to go....she was just out showing myself and a few friends the 'other side of town'.

Out of all the SBC cities, New Orleans is by far the best. It has a bit of everything. My father was heart broken that we didn't get the bowl game last year. He wants to go to the WWII museum down there, and believe it or not, his cardiologist even prescribed that very trip....though, he didn't offer to pay for it. :)

The WW II Museum is worth the trip alone. They are always adding new editions to it. I take my son there about every other month. BTW my wife is a Chalmation. They are some good people.

My first trip to New Orleans was a culture shock. I'd never seen people sleeping on the street before. Pretty young fella at the time took my breath away. I couldn't believe people could walk by and ignore it. Then some dbag took my money when I lost the "I can tell you where you got dim shoes" bet. I was hesitant to pay until 15 more showed up to collect the debt. Somehow that was a legitimate "man to man" with a twelve year old kid as I was at the time. I vowed to never go back. I managed to make my way back a few more times somehow. You've had too much fun when you're hanging out with friends in Valdosta Ga and your next memory is waking up squinting from the sun next to your buddy on the hood of your car on Canal street. My final hurah before transferring from Valdosta State to GS as it turns out. It pays to attend a University away from home.. 03-2thumbsup

It's not Disney World but you can have blast down here. So much culture, food, architecture, history and booze! I'm surprised you've never seen homeless people. I've seen them in all the major American cities I've been to.

I'm not native to New Orleans and strangest thing I don't understand is that you can be in a fancy beautiful area like Uptown and make a wrong turn and in a few blocks your in the hood. I use GPS a lot to get around and it has taken me in some pretty hairy areas. They need to make a duck and step on the gas app. You were sleeping on the street! LOL! Are we talking a "Hangover" type of night?
